Does anyone know of some good superchips for the EMS on a 416i? How much power/torque would i get? But most of all...HOW MUCH!
Not sure, tbh.
I don't think there is a chip available for the 416....the only thing that can be done is an Icon system; this has been discussed here before...with very mixed results.
The MGR MEMS system is un-chippable if I remember correctly....the Icon system is just a piggyback module which 'changes' the signals to the ECU and fools it into providing more fuel/altering the ignition timing at certain mapped points.

If I remember correcly, Lumenition do a box - used on Caterhams et.al., but rather than "chipping", it's a complete replacement ECU which can then be re-mapped. Won't do the VVC though (won't matter for your 416).

Right.
Emerald do something very similar, but it's a tad expensive, IIRC
It seems the only way to go for K Series chip-tuning >=(

Emerald has easily the best reputation of all the engine management chips available. Plus David Walker et al down in Brixton have a huge wealth of experience with modified K-series, and are likely to have a map to suit most applications. :)
Unlike the ICON units which piggy-back the MEMS unit to alter the ignition mapping, the Emerald unit is a complete replacement and maps all engine parameters including fueling. It is a very powerful system.
Best results from chips are usually seen in conjunction with other engine mods - air filters, high flow exhaust manifolds and back boxes, replacement cams and head porting.
On a performance per buck basis, it is far better to undertake the above mods FIRST as MEMS (the standard Rover engine management system) is more than capable of coping with these upgrades. A replacement chip will eek - out the final 5 - 10% (depending on state of engine tune). 8)
BTW It is crucially important that ANY chip is properly set up - and by this I mean on a Rolling Road - otherwise you risk serious engine damage. Always figure the cost of this set up into the purchase price of the chip.

the standard mems on a 1.8 k series will quite happily see 140+ bhp without too much trouble.
change to emerald or similar if you go for mechanical tappets
else stick with mems

Hi, I've just got my hands finally on a zr120, can you advise on a suitable chip & induction kit? Cheers.

There are no chips as such for rovers, the only chips that are produced for rovers are.
Superchip - Icon.
BBR- Interceptor.
Racelogic- Vsam.
These are not specific chips as such, whta they do is plug into the original rover ecu and intercept the signal, they only change the ignition timing aswell.
To be honest i think you would be better leaving the chip idea alone unless you want to change the whole ECU for a fully programmable one. But these are ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
As for induction kits get hold of Dr Dave as he can supply you one for your car i think.
Anyway the rover ECU is more than capable of handling virtually anything you throw it.
I personally would use the money you have saved ( or saving) for the chip and use it for something else.
Joel.
Thanks Joel,
Yep, I'd go along with what you say. I'd bung on a Pipercross Induction Kit [Pic to follow soon :)]
The Pipercross boys make some pretty good kit and it is well priced, too!
The ZR Induction kit is £69.99...contact me if you need any further info, we keep 'em in stock.
