Problem with R420 ym. -00 heated mirrors: the heating does not work... Owners manual says the heating is thermostat controlled.

At this morning was -3 degrees, and mirrors stayed on ice, but rear windows heating system worked fine. Also, the electric adjustment of mirrors works fine so I believe all fuses are in order... Owners manual does not say anything about mirrors heating system fuse, only "Mirrors" and "Rear demister" are seperated. Therefore I believe all needed fuses to get the mirrors warm are ok because rear demister and electric control of mirrors works fine.

Does anyone can say where the fault might be? Is the thermostat broken? Where the thermostat is located? If it is broken, can I bypass it and connect the mirror heating system directly behind the rear demisters switch? Here that small equitment is surprisingly needed...

The previous owner may have fitted non heated glasses because they were cheaper, worth a look.

Mirror glass can be an **** to remove from the mirror unit (whith heated mirrors). You can damage the moving mech in the process.

I have to replace heated glass on my L/H mirror - but may just get a cheap complete unit to replace it.

An old cav sri i had, used to have heated mirrors until one got smashed. I went to a glass merchant and they supplied the mirror and re-stuck the heating element back onto it. Worked a treat afterwards, with no problems.

I opened the doors inside cardboard at summer when I installed speakers, and then I noticed the wires going to the mirrors, and I'm 99% sure that they are heated mirrors. To the mirrors went two separate wires and one bunch of wires.

I just half an hour ago checked the fusebox from inside, and I found one broken fuse, 20amps and it was pointed to "Power Wash". My car has headlamp power washer and it have not worked at all allthough I fixed the connectors from pressure motor. But I don't think that that fuse is somehow connected to heated mirrors... allthough I'm not sure about that... Let's keep fingers crossed and hope that temperature tomorrow morning is at least that -3 degree...

I almost forget: if the thermostat is broken, where is it located...? Can i bypass it somehow?
