She Picked up her new Ford Sport KA SE - Full Leather - goes very well indeed - I have to say I was well impressed...for her, I think at the end of the day it was the correct choice...Although I did try to get her into an MG..!

My thoughts exactly. Sport Ka? Now that is one big oxymoron....

P.S. Did she get the free hair dryer? ;)

guys it does what she needs it to do! its perfect for a wifes car

would you rather her driving around in a landrover or soemthing that she dosnt need? or how about a great big suv?

if your wife likes it then thats all that matters - they must be cracking little cars as they have been around so long and dont look as dated as some new cars do on the market

Saw one today on the way in, they just look strange to me, though it's down to personal choice of cause!

I have to say that IMHO it is a cracking Car for what she wants - and they are reliable - plus the fact that I got a massive discount (I work for Jag) - It holds the road well (Sports Suspension) - and goes like stink...

Who mentioned SUVs or 4x4s???

Rover used to make a rather nice small sporty car up 'til 2000.... it was rather famous for winning races and rallies back in the 1960s and 70s... The engine was as old as a Ka's and it was only 10ft long as well.... ;)

Just make sure you keep on top of the multitude of inevitable Ford safety recalls...

Definitely personal choice/taste. SWMBO (who drives one of the last Sportspack Minis) says they look like "Barbie's car"! Me, I think they just look a bit stupid, like the Audi TT does in my eyes - it's like Ford let some work experience Chav loose on the Ka....

Then again, what do I know I drive a 75 and it was only voted "the most beautiful car in the world" by the Italians....

There ok.. Fords do the job.. relatively cheap, normally nice interiors... popular looks (there's plenty around).. that's why people like them...

6k? This is a Sport Ka we're talking about - £12k is more like it for a normal (non-Ford employee) punter! It's a flippin' expensive Ka!

While I agree with most of that, I have to disagree on the interiors, especially in a Ka. If painted tin and plastics normally seen in £3-99 bins from Argos is what you call 'nice' then, well... :yikes:

its till half the price of a bloody mini!!!!

the point is though is that it does the job!

Absolutely not, the chassis (i.e. ride and handling) on the standard Ka is very good indeed. I imagine the SportKa is excellent.

The interiors are crap however. This can be forgiven on the 5995 base model but I'm not so sure on the 10k+ sportka and streetka models.

I must say what a miserable bunch some of you lot are on here. If you hate anything non-MGR why venture into this part of the forum.

Ford are one of the few mainstream manufacturers who can give the MGR suspension engineers a run for their money...

dont include me on that miserable part!!!!

if the lady wants a ford or whatever make then its her decision - and as long as shes happy thats all that matters! no cheap jokes stabs from me at all! infact i dont mind ford kas - there good for what they are - full stop

I think its a good choice too.
From what I understand;
great handling, willing engine, good looks, economical running costs, good dealers etc. (just why we all liked MGR)

Everyone has different tastes Lord Minty.

I think the Sportka seems a cracking little car - stylish, great handling, a nippy little engine, with 1600cc to play with in a tiny machine. However the only small issue i have with them is that all the ones i see seem to be purplish-navy-blue - i've never seen one in another colour!

Although my heart yearns for an MGR product as a 1st car, if i cant get hold of one then perhaps a Ford, as there is virtually a dealer on each corner, no shortage of spares and loads of custom bits to add!

If anyone's got a basic RWD Escort mk2 1100 Popular knocking about thats roadworthy, for example....!

My other choice would be a Pug 106, but never a Nova or Corsa, purely for the fact that they have crap engines with no go.

i didnt say i wanted a Ka, only that people liek Lord Minty criticise anyone who drives anything other than a Rover 75.

I said yes to a Ford, but only if i cannot get hold of an MGR car.

ATM i'm keen on a Metro 1.1S, or is it C? The sportyish one that is apparently very fast despite only being 1100cc. I imagine its cheap to insure, and doesnt look too old-mannish. If it does, then a nice set of alloys will sort that out!

Failing that, a 200 Bubble. Most i see are driven by young blokes, or modded, so they have to be good too.

Decent enough cars the SportsKa. Should holds it value pretty well for a Ford as they are remaining quite a rare car on the roads.

As regards to the SportKa, it is not to my taste. £10K seems a bit steep for what is essentially a 1979 Fiesta with a Zetec engine in it

Rubbish! Try taking a corner in a 1979 Fiesta then doing it in a Ford Ka. You'd soon agree it's not the same car. Do you believe a Rover 200 is a bodged R8 with Maestro rear suspension? I don't either but it's the same argument.

Image would be another thing as well, in that fact that the Ka is generally suited more towards the female market. I would rather have a car with an old man image than that of a girly image. :)

At least we agree on that one, I wouldn't buy one either lol but having driven one I have a grudging respect for the chassis.

I paid £7200 - Its Metalic Silver - And yes it corners totaly different to the Fiesta it replaced.....

I have also looked at residual values - they are quite good - although my missus keeps her car's for 5 years so really it isn't an issue...

The mk3 200 is just a cut and shut of a mk2 200 chassis with a similar rear setup to a maestro though (with a different body) ;)

I do think the 1.6 sport Ka, is ok! They are almost a stroke of genuis from Ford, in that they have made a very individual and different looking small car that has alot of appeal and yet should have been cheap to buy being based on old tech Ford mechanicals. So the only problem with them really is why aren't they cheapish to buy like they should be? £12k+ for a sport Ka, what a joke!

I reckon the Ka, is however a funky little car for those who want a small easy to drive car that's still fun to drive. It's almost like a smaller and cheekier interpretation of the MINI cooper, and they do handle and steer really well, and the old but torquey 94bhp engine gives nippy if not rapid performance. I hate to say this, but id take a sport Ka over a low spec 1.4 R25 anyday, unless it was a ZR105 that is.
