help please

hi there i have a mg ztt estate 2.5 v6 . the car was fine up until it was STOLEN . it was then recovered by the police and i got it back BUT the engine was rattling so we changed the engine but used the same gearbox and clutch. all was fine . i then sold it about 2 weeks later. the guy came and drove it away he drove about twenty miles and the clutch stopped working and we got the car back . there is still some resistance in the pedal as if the clutch still works but it doesnt . can anyone help me or give any good advice cheers.
