Angry Chris Knott....presumes !

I have recently received my renewal paperwork from Chris Knott insurance, thats fair enough, it happens every year (but without the 100 increase).

But today, I also received a statement of payments for the forthcoming year from a credit company that they use.
Hooooooooooooold on one minute boys!! Who said I was going to renew with you this year? Last year, due to a shortness of a lump sum, I had to pay monthly, which I hate doing, so not only has Chris Knott presumed I am going to stay with them, but they also think that I want to pay monthly again.
This was received today (23/03/2011) and my insurance is not due renewal until 05/04/2011.
I do of course understand that this may actually be of great help to some, allowing the whole renewal to roll over automatically....no worries, but I would like the chance to shop around a bit, and decide for myself how I am going to pay for it. How about asking me before making arrangements?

Well I am sorry Chris Knott, but I think you have just lost me to another company mentioned regularly on this very forum, a shame as I have been with them for the last 3 years, but that is a major own goal.

Rant over!

John

Pretty much standard practice these days. So even if you swap you will probably find the new company follows a similar policy.

Think yourself lucky, I had originally been paying approx 36 a month on my ZR. When I got my renewal through the price was now over 120 per month.
My circumstances haven't changed and I haven't made any claims. They would automatically renew it unless I told them otherwise.

When I phoned the conversation went

Me: So you will automatically renew the insurance unless I tell you otherwise.
Insurance Numpty:Yes, that is correct.
Me: Well I am telling you otherwise.
I.N.: May I ask why Sir.
Me: Yes why when I have been paying 36 before would you think that I would now be happy to pay 120 per month, I would never pay that sort of money for insurance a month, I would rather use the bus. ?
I.N.: Well have you had any more quotes.
Me: Yes and it is slightly dearer a month than I have been paying previously, My circumstances have not changed and I haven't made any claims so can you tell me why it has increased so much.
I.N.: OK Sir I will cancel that renewal then.

Roverman, was that with Chris Knott?

Also, as a fellow Prestonian I'm sure you'll appreciate how silly most quotes with PR in the postcode are. I'm in PR2 and my insurance is ridiculous.

all insurance companies do this nowadays - its standard practice. you should ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure you have not signed up for autorenew, and if you have and are planning on using another insurer this time round to ALWAYS make sure you have called/wrote to your previous informing them of this.

always amazes me how little people know about their insurance

The above is why M and SK postcodes are so dear because we are so close to a tin pot town like Preston.

I never tried Chris Knott but there was one of the companies and it may of been one of the sponsors who said they could not insure me living in Manchester unless I knew of a way to move it further from Tin Pot Town.

Seriously though, there was an insurance company

I inquired about paying by annual direct debit with A-Plan and they said they don't do it as they might well advise me to change insurer at renewal!

TBH there really is some dodgy areas in Manchester, I have lived in Salford for all but 10 years of my life. I currently live at home with Mumsy and Dadsy because I got divorced. They live in Salford (Swinton to be accurate) and my ex wife Sue lives in our house in Worsley. Both are three bed though my/Sue's house is detached but worth over twice my mum's. This is also reflected in the insurance cost for cars as it cost me an extra 14% to move less than six miles down the road to Swinton. Two close areas massively different.

I always thought Stockport quite a nice town too, but like many areas obviously not all of them

Is that with your existing insurer? If so, have you tried other companies?

Although Manchester will probably be higher anyway all insurers price all risk differently.

My Dad is 61 with a 10 plate Megane 1.6 and is paying Co-operative Insurance 260.

I am 36 with a 10 plate 308CC and am paying Esure 288.

Turn it round with both insurers - Co-operative want over 600 for me in a quote and Esure want over 600 from my Dad in a quote. That's with Esure historically aiming towards low risk drivers.... supposedly.
