Question Info please re insuring 3 cars.

Hi all.

I have 2 cars on the road, they are in my name and I am the main insurer with my Husband as a named driver.

I am toying with getting a third car but I am really confused regarding the insurance.

I have just had a sniff online and because I am keeping my 2 cars am I correct in thinking I would essentially be starting from fresh with the 3rd car? Ie declaring no NCB?

Then there is the next question which they ask and it is "Have you been a named driver on someone else's policy?"
Well technically no but I have millions* of years of accident free driving in my own cars on my own policies and being an ex Driving Instructor it feels odd saying "No"

Also because they see me as a 'new' driver they don't seem to want me to protect my NCB (which I always do)
So if I had an accident in the 3rd car would this then mean I could potentially lose on my other policies?

My tiny pea-brain hurts, help please

*Figure may not be accurate.

Try ringing your current insurers to see if they will "mirror" your NCD, some will, some wont, my current insurers won't (got three separate policies) but I've had it done in the past.......why I've now 3 policies.

Also worth going to a local insurance broker, they maybe able to get you a deal which online automated systems won't.

This really is the best advice.

The price comparison sites are a scam directly and indirectly funded by insurers.

This really is the best advice, I use a tiny, 'one man band' insurance broker who has regularly been up to 50% cheaper than internet based searches.

As above, speak to a person, either in person or on the phone.

Adi, try Sky Insurance, A-Plan & Chris Knott. They are brokers and have always been superb when I've rung.

I was with Sky for several years, then switched to Chris Knott for the last 2 years.

A-Plan, I've not been with but have been very friendly and competitive when I've rung them.

I have three insured and a bike. One as the main car and two on classic policys. (very low cost). As said some will mirror NCD. As for protected bonus, never bothered with it. I don't belive it's all it's cracked up to be. OK the bonus may stay but I bet there will be a loading in one way or another.

Definitely worth asking perhaps one of the current companies you are using.
I did just that with my daily and an Alfa Spider. This year the Spider is on a classic policy with PBIS but two years prior to that my NCB was mirrored.

At Chris Knott Insurance we could certainly mirror your bonus as an introductory discount so you're not starting from zero %.

Sorry for the delay in spotting your question.

best,
Nick
