Description
  • MGF Mk2 (face-lift model), first registered Nov 1999
  • 1800cc MPI engine (not VCC)
  • Nightfire red
  • 114,000 miles (mostly motor-way / lon-distance)
  • Owned since May 2005 and at 35,000 miles
  • All MOTs since, major receipts, etc. Plus some from before May 2005
  • Oxford Alpaca Leather seats, steering wheel. These are the full-leather seats, ie back, sides, pocket and head-rests - not the cheaper leather seat. No rips, tears or marks.
  • Miltek SS exhaust
  • Chrome pack (ashtray, door sill capping, etc)
  • Walnut effect centre console
  • Red leather (to match body colour) door cards (centre and bottom - custom), centre console, hand-brake gaiter and gear-stick gaiter.
  • Night-fire red tonnaue cover
  • Glass rear heated screen (wired up)
  • All switches / electrics work
  • 15 inch MGF alloy wheels
  • Toyo Proxy T1R tyres on rear (2-3 mm tread)
  • Continental Contact II tyres on front (1-2 mm tread). Yes this combination seem to work OK together!
  • Lo-Larm coolant level sensor fitted
  • SS under-floor coolant pipes
  • Car mats always used
  • Original marketing broucher for car
  • Manuals and binder
  • Original stereo (with key code)
  • Two keys
  • No/minimal rust on body (with exception of front off-side wing). I've treated wheel arch edges, and re-sprayed
  • K&N air filter (std fit) - not performance
  • SS bolts/nuts used to smarten it up where possible
  • Chrome-plated bonnet-catch
  • Spare wheel with very little use
  • Boot clean and dry
  • No leaks into car from roof or around seals (and we've had some heavy rain!)
  • Night-breaker bulbs
  • 3 months MOT
  • Garaged with de-humidifier
  • MG Owners Club and MG Org forum member (can read my posts about the car)
Prior to 24 months ago (major work)
  • Head gasket, cambelt and water pump replaced at 72,000 miles - Feb 2007
  • Steering re-calibrated - Feb 2007
  • Serviced every 6 months or 10k miles (oil/oil filter every 6-8 months)
  • Wheels refurbished (OK job)
  • Very little rust under car - I check and clean this off, paint and Waxoyl where required every 9-12 months
  • New battery
  • SS under-floor coolant pipes
  • DAB Sony stereo with aux socket wired up
Work completed 12-24 months (about 1500 miles a year)
  • Two new front brake callipers
  • New SS brake hoses
  • New brake fluid
  • Miltek exhaust fitted with new cat and down-pipe (using SS nuts/bolts!)
  • New rear off-side brake calliper (I have the near-side one ready to go on when that side sticks)
  • Front steering track-control arms replaced
  • Front top ball-joints replaced
  • Front sub-frame cleaned up, surface rust treated and painted / waxoyled
  • Regular servicing as required (oil/oil filter every 6-8 months)
  • Fully Waxoyled inside and out
  • Wheel-arch edge de-rusted, treated and sprayed
  • Sound deadening in boot, bonnet, doors and floor-pan added
  • Water ingress through heater box under bonnet fixed
  • Clutch release arm oiled/greased (not ever stuck since)
  • Rear wheel bearing (s)
    Front wheel bearing(s)
  • New radiator
  • New alternator
  • Second-hand driver’s door lock mech fitted
  • Uprated Sony speakers in front doors
  • New HT leads, distributor cap, rotor arm
Work completed past 6-12 months (400-500 miles a week in past 6 months (all motorway) and 1500 miles a year before April)
  • Both front bottom wishbones replaced - waxoyled inside and, primed / stone-chip sprayed on outsides
  • MOT (advisories: scored front disc (33), orange indicator bulb fading (2), small gash in side of front tyre (160 fitted for two Toyo T1Rs)
  • Sill bottom edge de-rusted, treated and sprayed with stone-chip
    Waxoyled (again)
  • New clutch slave cylinder and new clutch fluid
  • New glass rear screen fitted - so much better than the plastic
Work completed past 6 months
  • Minor service: plugs, oil changed, new oil filter, ait filter cleaner (K&N), new fuel filter
  • Cambelt replaced
  • Water pump replaced
  • Rear suspension rubbers replaced with polybushes
  • New rear track-control arms (both sides)
  • 4 nearly-new standard shock absorbers and rubbers
  • New front anti-roll-bar rubbers
  • Front anti-roll-bar de-rusted, treated, primed and stone-chip sprayed
  • 4-wheel laser alignment
  • re-coloured drivers-side seat edge as was wearing
  • Second-hand engine fan fitted from 2004 MGTF
  • Coolant pressure tested and 'block'-tested. Both negative and I hope therefore head gasket is still good and coolant holding pressure
Bad bits
  • It is 13 years old (but I believe one of the best for this age)
  • Off-side front wing is starting to rust along bottom and has been filled/sprayed by me (so not great), as I dented it
  • Near-side wing has a tiny bit of rust on back-bottom edge
  • Stone chips on front bumper, rear wheel arches and few on bonnet
  • Wheels could look better
  • Some scratches on body - I always polish these out with Scratch-X and SRP when I can
  • Couple scratches on windscreen and one chip (not MOT failure)
