Learning the hardway! Bloody hell, I checked, double checked and tripled check! No worries, it took me a full day to rip out the box, but only an hour this time.

I ordered a new speedo gear. £35 - ouch!

Thanks, I will just fit the ones that I have, if they work.
Next question!
I damaged the plastic gear that sits between the diff and bearing (crown wheel?) Rimmer bros is struggling to find the part. The one off diesel box has 26 teeth and the one off of the t16 box has 23. Can I simply replace the entire gear assembly from the t16, without the speedo being thrown off?

HI Dan,
I think Rimmer Bros sent the wrong seals. They are the right diameter and thickness, but they dont have the metal cover nor really any lip, so it does not look like there is anything to keep it place. I did try to remove the metal cover from the seal on, but it is rather stuck on and I cant think that is correct. What do you think?

Thanks Dan alot. I order the parts and tools to do the job. Hopefully, I will fetch a spare gearbox this weekend and start the rebuild.

Oh, I see my mistake, I got a quote for the M208, as I thought these were the uprated steel caged bearings and the 6208 were the plastic rubbish ones.
Thanks a lot for your help, I am way over my head. However, I think I can get the job done once I get over all the technical jargon.

The two diff berings, 6208. I went to the bearing shop and they wanted something like £41 plus vat and shipping per bearing. I would have no quibbles for £20 each, because that is what I expected them to cost. Where do you get your bearings?
-
Hi Dan,
I received a price for some steel caged bearings and there is a £30 per bearing price difference from standard. Ok, I know that the OE bearings are rubbish. However, I am kinda thinking that there is no gearbox issues and we dont see many bearing failures, so is it a bit over kill to buy the steel caged bearings?
However, then there is the issue of the LSD and the additional strain and this might be enough to put it over the limit.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Jonathan

Thanks Dan,
Yes, I learned about the lesson about the top gear already, as it popped off and I tried to figure out how it went back on. I will make a holder for the gear assembly.
Is the speedo gear, the little plastic gear logged on the side of the bottom casing?
Thanks about about the crownwheel, I will check it.
Basically, what I am doing with my donor box is taking apart and putting back together for practice. I think this way, I will get over the learning curve.
