Coolant tank - tips on how to clean inside

On a 2.0 TD L series I started to clean the general sludge that builds up over the years from inside the coolant header tank and find it difficult to clean as there are compartments within the coolant tank. I can rub the sludge off what I can reach. But cannot reach much. Has anyone successfully cleaned up one of these tanks?

Hot water and a dishwasher tablet. Leave to soak, then empty and repeat. A magic eraser sponge stuffed inside while violently shaking helps. Try using a bent skewer to poke the sponge around inside. If your tank is from a 45/ZS then it won't be possible to clean all of the tank due to its compartments but a combination of the above steps should get close.

Also a bloomin good shake with a handful of dry rice in with the dishwasher solution. It can take a while to get all the grains out, but it is effective.

Pea gravel as above is what I use. Make sure you get it all out though!
