hi can anyone help please, the battery was flat on my mg zt cdti so a friend jumped it off his van and left it running after about 10 mins the engine started reving really hard and thick smoke poored from the exhaust and it would nt stop with the key he eventually stopped it by disconnecting something i dont know what though. the car has 110.000 on the clock i hav nt had the car long so dont know when it was serviced but the oil is really thick .could something be blocked ? or is it more serious. we hav,nt tried starting it since . have you any thoughts on the cause of this .its year is 2004.thanks john
It might be the turbo oil seal failing, which is usually the cause of a "runaway" Diesel engine.
I just saw a similar thread a few minutes ago for a 75 or ZT, was that you as well? Anyhow it seems that on the BMW Diesel engine the PCV valve can cause similar problems, so cleaning it or replacing it might be the solution.
You might get more ideas from the folks in the 75 & ZT forum as well, but I think the problem is quite likely to be one of the above two causes.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
