Good info mate, cheers I've actually not looked into doing it on the Slowver, so that might save me some hassle!

the wires were different. you will find 4 wires going from the ignition barrel to a whitish plug. there is a black/white, 2 white wires and another wire (dont worry about this one)

cut the black/white and strip a section on the plug side (just making that one clear, you want the side of the now cut wire which is attached to the plug, not the ignition barrel)

then you want to splice into one of the white wires. which one you ask? look at the wires coming from the ignition barrel. you want the white one at the bottom. trace it back and splice accordingly

hope this helps an already excellent guide nice job tj, still useful years on
Just did this on the Slowver, worked a treat Thanks mate.

That looks awesome and would do it tomorrow. Iv got one huge dilema and question!

If I disconnect the battery will my fob (round one) have to be reprogranmed to the ECU/BCU?

I have a genuine reason for asking as before I bought my car I had to fork out £575 on an ECU/BCU and a fob. The boy I bought it from locked the car as normal with the fob which deadlocked it. His batterry then went flat because of dodgy wiring. Now I cant remember if he said if he removed the battery from the car or fob to replace it which then meant his fob was no longer programmed to the ECU. As far as iv been told the fob has to be eprogrammed by using the key in the lock and turning in a certain sequence. problem being it has been de-locked. So I had to get a hold of an mg zr specialist in glasgow to put in the said above things for me. He told me once a fob has been unprogrammed from the ECU it cant be recoded to it? Funny thing is the key fob he gave me warnt brand new....

So bearing in mind that I have the same model car, how would I wire up one of these?

Smile Remote starter button

Thanks for all of this information. I needed to fit a remote button as the switch on the underneath of the ignition had failed in position 3 and as I have the Mk2 ZR, I would need to grind of the security plate to get to replace the switch. Again thanks for this info.
