The unpressurised tip, with the car idling, came from Peter Remmington. His site is at

http://remmington.info/index.html

I 'phoned him to see about getting my spare MEMS box cloned to the one on my car whilst the car's off the road, and he gave me that tip, along with a couple of others during the conversation.

By the way, there is some very interesting stuff on that site, not least on diagnostic equipment and common ECU faults, including MEMS.

Welcome to the forum

Unfortunately, this was THE thread, but the op hasn't been on the site for two and a half years, and appears to have either moved or deleted his pictures from his hosting site - most inconsiderate.

However, you may find this thread of great help: HGF :( First time fixing it myself. (Picture Heavy).

Good luck with replacing your headgasket. If you have any specific queries or questions (or just want to let us all know how you are getting on with it, please feel free to ask (either here, or possibly better in the forum sub section relating to your model of car).
