Double check the connector were you insert the wire. It should go *well* into No.8. If you are sure about that, make sure the timing for grounding it is done correctly. Read my previous post on this, I wanted to make sure I understood it right and seems I do.

Cheers,

JaX

RAVE CD-ROM has an error

Another point on this issue. The RAVE CD-ROM has an error in one of the diagrams of socket C0040.

In the Connectors listing, C0040 has the pinouts exactly as discussed in this thread, with Nos. 1 and 9 at the right hand end of the socket. However, under Rover 75/Communications and Data Buses/Description/Diagnostic Bus, socket C0040 is drawn with Nos. 8 and 9 at the same end.

So much for the RAVE CD! Is it known to have errors or is this likely a one off?

Cheers,

JaX

Unfortunately, there are a number of small errors throughout the disc I am afraid. We've found plenty on the MGF one for example

As I understand it, negative values reset just like positive ones. Your problem must be in the timing used for the reset.

Still Confused on this

Going through the timings again, I'm now confused about what has been called an 'Oil Service PLUS an Inspection Service' reset.

My 2004 handbook says three conditions may be displayed.

Oil Service, or Inspection and there maybe a Clock logo (Brake Fluid change). I assume the Clock is a 'Time Service'. Is that correct?

How can you have an Oil Service AND an Inspection displayed together? Is the pre-2004 display different?

Cheers,

JaX

Confirmed.

You can reset ANY negative value at any time.

Oil Service WITH Inspection Service?

I'm still confused about resetting an Oil Service WITH an Inspection Service because they alternate every 15,000 miles.

Surely you can't see both on the display at the same time?

I understand that each has the same 8-25 second reset, but my 2004 handbook says only four displays are possible.

Oil Service
Inspection
Oil Service + Clock sign
Inspection + Clock sign

Cheers,

JaX

Well, I had a inspection sitting at 6275 and done the rest thing and now the Oil Service is sitting at 15000, I left the bit of wire in for a full 30secs or so......and mine is a R75 2.0V6 Classic on an 2000 (X), Just done a service on it about 1 month ago, and oil service 3 weeks ago, so superb bit of techy knowledge.

A pic of 2 of the Diagnostic sockets

1. Wrong Pinout as in Rave
2. Right pinout is in Connector views from Rave

Finally it worked for a 2002 2.0CDT.

I have spent the last couple of days trying this and gave up many-a-time. The suggestion to use two paper clips (one straight and one bent) worked eventually. Keep trying, I must have tried 30 times or so with differing combinations. Try adjusting the depth in which the clips are pushed into the connector. Have both in place but not connected, as soon as the ignition is in position 2 and the service interval comes up, connect the two clips and hold for 10secs, then turn off ignition. Good luck!

Took me quite a few attempts to get it done. I wasn't sure if I could short pins 8 and 4 before turning the key or not. In the end it worked by shorting pins 4 and 8 only when the service indicator was displayed. Next time, I'll be due for an inspection - well the car that is.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I paid for this information on e-bay only yesterday and found this forum today! What timing!

As good as when I bought my Rover 75 and within the Month ROVER had gone belly up! What timing again!
