I may still buy the engine and all extras and have them ready though

I can't say it isn't a bit of a ball ache though, I keep finding engines but they're just engines! I would much rather have a coupe to rip apart and take all the bits I need, rather than spending time buying lots of separate pieces

Have you being able to reapply for a new license yet??

    Chris.

( had to spread message over to posts :S)

    HI!

I was actually shaking my head with eyes wide open, full of shock! Slightly more than you guestimated! lol Still....i guess it's better than sticking a 16ft scoop on the front lol.

I almost bought a T a couple of weeks ago off ebay! It was relatively cheap, with quite low mileage! Just after christmas though, is a bad bad time to be splashing out on cash!

Now I have another problem with it! I'm driving my 'wise down to Almeria (very bottom corner of Spain) in August.....so as much as I don't want to postpone my conversion, It would prove much cheaper to keep the T16 out! I've already worked it out and near £600 for petrol there and back, god knows what that would be with a T burning away!

Hey. I've not been on for ages. Still short on money...and work so its making things difficult! Still looking for engines. Just seen a great one with only 41k miles on it, with most ancillaries for £250. Seeing as my alternator died this morning, I've been so tempted to get it lol. (My phone has no enter key, so can't split this message up!) Anyway, ill still need to be able to get the car done in a couple of days at most, as I need the use of a car quite a lot. So id need to get a coil sorted and everything first! Or pay lots of money and have aaautosports do it for me!

    Aww dude, that's terrible!

I'm still really thinking about a T16 conversion. Think i'll get AA autosports onto it for me though, as their prices have come down quite a bit recently!

I think I would have the first Turbo powered Streetwise (none diesel) if I go ahead with it, and I'm really toying with the idea of a drivetrain conversion too! Rear wheel drive, or AWD!!

I've now made a little headway, the clutch and flywheel is fitted, the gearbox is fitted on the engine (I managed to find all of the bolts, christ knows how because my garage is a total 'sheet hoal' right now! )

I've also been experimenting with the Cosworth intercooler position. It's still going to be going low in the front bumper, but the snag is that it's got to sit a hell of a lot further forward than first anticipated, this means the lower slats will have to either be cut...

Well it's been a while since I updated here, there's not a lot to report though as I've hardly had chance to do much to the car over the last few months. The bucket seats are now in, though the harnesses aren't as yet fitted, but pictures will follow by next weekend (the mountings for the harnesses are not as straight forward as I hoped, but that's another story). The seats are a perfect height and make the car feel really low slung, my shoulders are barely any higher than the tops of the doors!...

Well, it's been a while since I've done an update, but here goes.

Since trial fitting the engine I've not really done a lot with the project, I'm still trying to source a welder too, that'll speed things along no end.

I did manage to snag a late type Impreza TMIC (top mount intercooler) from ebay, being the later type it's got a larger capacity and also comes with the standard dump valve and STi 'Y' pipe, not bad for twenty-six of my english pounds! A TMIC will solve...

Righto all,

I've not had a chance to update this for a bit now, but over the weekend I got on with stripping all the unwanted stuff off the T5, and then got around to trial fitting it in the engine bay yesterday, and it fits far better than I thought it would! I'll let the pics do the talking though:

Well, after an epic battle to get the engine out of the 850, I finally have my burbling 5 pot to start trial fitting into the car over the next week or two, it looks colossal! Still, the tape measure doesn't lie, and that huge unsightly auto box is coming off in favour of a slimmer manual 'box anyway, and all the aircon/PAS gubbins will be coming off, so it's all blue skies!

I few pics of the oily bits, and some of the engine...

All ready to come out:
