Did you managed to sort your ZS diesel?

I changed my whole oil cooler because I couldn't get the stat out, and of course fitted a new 'stat while doing so... and it still boils up if I give it the welly!

    Now where are my matches...

Hi mate the 400/45/ZS pedal height adjustment bracket is ready to order now. Kit is priced at £4.25 including P+P, and will be sorting out the first batch tomorrow.

    Payment via PayPal to dellboymat@yahoo.co.uk

    Thanks for the interest!

The price is always right joking haha.

Thought so, it's odd symptoms as they usually fail open but seems on the later Dervs they don't.

Glad the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train! Mat

Oh i might well do thanks, I know that Matt has a trade account with Xpart though so it might be cheaper for him to get one.

The car is booked in for a new holiday with rally matt next friday - going to get the pressure readings and check the cooling system. depending on what is found depends on the next step.

i suspect we will fashion the pressure relief system regardless if we detect reading above 26PSI in the Exaust manifold. Whether it is causing this issue or not, as it should be about the same as boost generally....

No worries, think it's worth a try for free!

Also got a new thermostat I don't need now if you want it, OEM Rover.

    Fixed it!

Tried to get the 'stat out of the housing, snapped a TORX bit and so didn't actually get it apart... but gave the system a good flush, ran with some Boi washing powder in to clean the crud out, and also got some needle-nose pliers up the oil cooler outlet to give the end of the 'stat a bit of a free-up.

All back together and working perfectly, bottom pipe hot now and no overheating

Worth a shot, took me 30 mins!

Afternoon mate, we've deemed the 'stat the issue on my car, after I measured the top of the radiator as 110 degrees and bottom as 24!
I'd be changing yours, sounds just like mine.

Interesting stuff. Just make sure anything you use has a 145 degree spray angle and should be fine.

I thought vag's were all 150, you learn something new every day. It is time people looked at different sorts of nozzles though, theres few pump upgrades available so it's up to the map to request it and the nozzle to deliver it i'm afraid.

...and the theory of high Exhuast manifold pressure has been proven.

Will run the car relatively gently until I can work out a way to fashion something to reduce the pressure by bypassing the turbo.

More to follow as the development gets started!

Realised that i had not posted up here for a while, and to say that a few weeks after posting tuning being completed, i suffered a major Head Gasket failure when giving the car some beans.

Well i managed to nurse it for 3000 miles or so, and had some investigative work done on the car - faulty thermostat; water pump replaced; coolant flush and different coolant tried...

Well needless to say it did not help.

When Matt got his hands on it again the past...

Well the car has been finished!

I have been down to see Matt in Yeovil to get the hybrid injectors all mapped up, and got some good results in the end.

170bhp and 270lbsft torque.

Big thanks to Rally_Matt (stephens) for the mechanical side of things and also to Pocketbikuk (Matt Reidy) for the electronic side.

Just got my hands on a nice stainless mid section too to complete my exhuast

Car is currently away on vacation for a nice stay in a sheltered farm workshop, while a re-occurence of the gearbox gremlin is investigated.

It seems that i have been quite lucky with it as when it looses drive it has recovered quite quickly, but it it finally showed matt the symptoms the other day leaving him in a position with no drive until he gave the drive shafts a wiggle.

Now that the area has been narrowed down hopefully will now solve this for good!

well,

been a while since an update and afte a fair amount of soul serching and pondering and postulating i have decided on advice from pockebike and my decision to give up using wingy injectors on the car.

Going to be going down a slightly new route with a hybrid of SDI and ZS injector - just swapping the noxlles but keeping the higher break pressure to hopefully help with the atomisation issues as i am sure that this is the result in the high EGT's above 4000 rpm and...
