Thanks for the info about my cigarette lighter problem. Your post had a load of question marks in it so I'm not sure I understood all of it!

My lighter seems to blow the fuse randomly The longest it's gone without blowing the fuse is three days, then it blew 3 fuses in a row when the ignition was first turned on - with nothing in the lighter. It will blow when the cigarette bit is insertered or when i use it to charge my sat nav or phone, or when there is nothing in there. The light for the lighter still works and illuminates when the car's lights are on. My car's an auto, so there's also a lead coming from the lighter to the gear selector bulb, which also doesn't work when the fuse has blown.

I haven't got a wiring diagram for the car, it's a 1997 cabriolet with a bubble shaped dash. I've got a multimeter but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for, so any simple advice would be really appreciated!
