Ever feel somethings holding you back? Well I had that feeling recently, and what it was quickly became clear when I got out of the car and smelt the burning brake pads. A quick touch of each alloy identified the lh rear to be unusually hot. This one had been sticky late last summer and I'd had it apart, lubed it and readjusted. I thought I'd better investigate:

  1. Chocked car and jacked up rear of car and put on axle stands.
  2. Spun rear wheels - lh wheel took a lot of force, whereas

Oil leaks are a nuisance and often quite difficult to track down. The Rover 214 began to need top-ups in-between the annual oil changes, and on my pre MOT inspection I found out why; oil all over the lower half of the engine.

A few months ago the Rover 214’s alarm started randomly going off after the car was locked and left. This was a little embarrassing, especially in the small hours of the morning. I hadn’t had any trouble with the alarm before, despite the cars age. The car battery was fine, so I started fault finding by doing the easy stuff first:

Firstly, I tested the movement sensor in the passenger compartment was not faulty by at locking with the key (which doesn’t activate it) – this made no difference...

Had a problem with the rear windscreen demister not turning off and was a bit concerned as it would drain the battery when it gets colder if I left it as it was. Posted a question in the R200 area and was advised 'check tailgate loom',. Sure enough:

I'd fixed it in the past, but the wires had broken again. I fixed it again (hopefully better)...
