Rover 115d cooling fan electrics

Hi

I've got a Rover 115d and I'm a bit stuck.

Cooling fan has stopped working.
Fan works with 12V
Temp gauge works fine
Fuses are fine
So must be knackered fan switch.

But

Theres 2 fan switches on the rad, and 2 temperature sensors on the thermostat
I'm baffled. What are the second set of sensors for?

The Rover 100 Haynes only covers petrol, which have 1 of each sensor
The Peugeot 106 Haynes covers the diesel engine, which has 1 of each sensor in French spec.

Any ideas?

Usually on the thermostat one sensor (single wire sensor) is for the dash gauge. A second two pin sensor is for the ECU.
On the radiator you may find the thermostatic switches control two speeds for the fan. (Or on many rovers the ECU controls the fans at two speeds). Sorry not familiar with the diesel.

If you unplug the two pin thermostat sensor does the fan run?
If you bridge out the radiator sensor does the fan run?
