Price range

So what are we guessing the starting, mid and top end price will be?

Starter (1.5T) manual 2wd - £14999 (a bit more than a bottom end 6)
Mid 1.8D manual 2wd - 16999
Top end 2.0T auto awd - 19999????

I think that's about right though I'd expect the 2.0T to be a bit more expensive.

For comparison, the prices of the cheapest Kugas, CR-Vs and X-Trails start with 2s.

Agreed more mainstream brands do ask a higher price. But the only cache MG have at the moment is 'not much money compared to the others'. Over time prices will rise if MGs become desirable by more than a few thousand punters.

A X-Trail is quite big . . . The GS is more of a Cashcow size isn't it?

Yes more QQ size than N-Trail.

It can't compete in those sectors yet though - it is not established enough.

No one yet - most of the threads in this section are currently hypothetical as there is scant information on what range/process will be announced in April/May.

There will no surprise if the GS turns up with one engine option and a manual gearbox based on previous MG experience. One day they might offer more engines and more transmission options assuming the Chinese owners allow them to of course.

It's so different if you compare to how Geely is developing Volvo. I wonder if things would be different if Geely had got MG

My mistake but it works out halfway between the Qashqai and X-Trail. It is close in size to the Kuga and CR-V though.

I think they could get away with just offering the diesel here (like in the current MG6) though that's not what those of us who want a more powerful MG or an Auto want to hear!

It would be the plug in hybrid I would be interested in, as with the proposed battery range of circa 30 miles it would be eligible for the £5000 government grant, so even if it was say £25k that's £20K to the buyer.

Just got to hope they actually do it rather than just talk about it.

In the market for a new car next year so crossing my fingers (won't go as far as holding my breath though.)

I looked at the GS before I purchased my Nissan X Trail, and decided it was too small for what I needed,.so didn't wait for it to be launched, in any event by the time I can purchase a GS my Xtrail will be a year old.
The pricing structure looks good , but for £14K you can get a SsangYong Tivoli with leather, diamond cut alloys, sat nav , reverse park camera etc so will need to offer something different.

I can see the SUV market becoming over saturated, and its not always about price, if the £14K entry level price is correct, I could have purchased 2 and still had change for my top of the range Nissan Xtrail Tekna

Would not be shocked to see the 1.5 turbo in at £13999 with entry level kit upto about £15-16000

Id expect the Diesel to be closer to £17,000 and come with only the top spec trim.

Needs to come with a 5 year warranty, 3 years servicing and 0% APR on PCP to be competative even at those prices.

Did MG get their numbers from this thread? Some very good guesses on here and 5 years warranty.
