You still don't seem to get it - it isn't the need to change passwords after the breach that is the issue - it is your company's insistence on requiring a password of unnecessarily high complexity, and the ham-fisted way you have gone about implementing the forced password change.

It still does not alter the fact that should a similar breach occur again, it will not make any difference how complex our passwords are if Verticalscope don't store them suitably dispersed and effectively encrypted.

The complexity is way over the top for a web forum, and the requirement to change yearly is also over cautious. I doubt very much if anyone has anything in their stored personal messages that is likely to be an issue (and as most of us are mere registered users, and so have a 5 message storage limit, most of us will be routinely deleting all of our messages once read/sent anyway

miss npo is locked out of the forum.

I have found out from miss npo that she has no access to the forums and hasn't been able to reset her password despite receiving the emails instructing her to do so.

Something has went wrong somewhere with this pathetic system. It needs sorting.

She has informed me that her email details stored on her account info is correct. So if a moderator could email her a fix to get her up and running again that would be great

miss npo has requested that I tell you all she can longer chat with her mate Man in the Car and it's just not on!

Please can someone help her ASAP. No one has replied to her email requests for help either.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....... It seems to me that the owners of this site appear to be deliberately running this forum down. Mark my words, there will be further issues aimed at upsetting the members until tbey finally have had enough. How many more are in a similar position as miss npo but have no way of alerting the mods. I detect in the many drafts I read that even the mods are losing patience. Sad, so sad

Since this forum is public one, what I can do is offer my private email address so members which cannot contact us can write to me and see if I can help them in this way. What you think?

A very good and kind offer Roverlike, as long as you are sure your details won't be compromised

If you are happy to do that I think it's a good idea.

And.... Roverlike's thoughtful gesture highlights the gulf between mods, members and the owners

Miss npo replied yesterday, almost immediately, and I made suggestions how to resolve her password issue, and asked her to come back to me, but I did not get any reply. I do not see her logged on site, so do not know what is the status right now...

I think she may be busy with work at the moment. I'm sure she will be back in touch soon

How do I reset passwords?

I tried to change my pass a few weeks back and there was a technical hitch.
I've logged in with the random one you had given me - but I can see no route to changing it to the one I want to use.
Any advice?
Ps. Just my ha'porth - but the password security issue seems to be getting out of hand if you're seriously thinking of deleting them every 12 months.
Supposing you get hacked the day after the changeover - they've still got 11 months and 29 days to ... whatever it is you imagine the KGB want with my MGF unreliability record.
And if they can hack a simple word, what's to stop them hacking an un-memorisable combo of letters, numbers and symbols?

Can you try this link for password change: http://forums.mg-rover.org/profile.php?do=editpassword

This is under User CP, and then on the ledt side you have Your Profile, then Edit Your Details and then in the middle part of the screen under Email & Password you have button Edit Email & Passowrd.
