Not being rude--------------just curious, that's all.----

Admins and moderators have effectively seen no change, it's always been the case that site owner/main admin have more access to the hardware and software that the site runs on and this the level that scrips work at. This was the same when Steve Childs owned the site.

The admins did have more access to more of the configuration tools for the forum than we do today, the main difference was that Steve spoke to us, sought opinion and we were all in the loop of what was going on, participated in user testing before we unleashed on the poor unsuspecting masses. Granted we didn't get everything right then either, but upgrades were considerably smoother than this. For moderation, nothing has really changed from the technical side.

Maybe this is the learning phase and hopefully the start of more frequent smaller updates than the mass changes that have had to happen as the site was some what old and neglected.

Give them time to fix it over the next few days and hopefully all will be well in the MGR world.

I see a lot of "hate" around the new layout but, I think all boils down to:

*) Banner/Title: a rework is needed
*) Homepage should be re-engineered to be more clean and slim
*) The Forum menu is plain-grey, and anonymous. Needs some graphical overhaul.
*) The writing box should be restyled
*) The forum post are too high, giving the impression of an empty page and is not very readable
*) The general graphics should be more MG-origented: intead of a letterbox an MG/Rover logo with different colors to mean something. This kind of things set the moods.
*) Less advertise

CSS3 is yourfriend and vbullettin allow these kind of customization. Coupled with GIMP should be not a big job.

Now back in the UK and using a PC it does look OK.

I like the links on recent posts etc - if it not for that I would never have been able to access threads on windows phones. However other than that browsing on a mobile was probably better than the old site.

I can now see what others have been saying about the trademarked logos used in the header, the prominent adverts on RHS, the gaff that makes it very difficult to get back to the forum page of the old style.

Just keep fixing the bugs please

Heya,

You guys where consulted about the banner and liked it here:
(edited to remove link to mod forum that wouldnt have worked for users)

You can turn off the sidebar on the homepage to slim it down, directions in the feedback thread.

You can also adjust the font size by clicking (control) and (-) or (+)

Also unfortunately we need to have some ad revenue to pay for the server costs.

Typed a long winded message in and encountered the "are you human type this illegible rubbish to proceed"

Did that and was then asked to register.

Hi Jeff - thats a link to the mod section so the users wont have seen that - just the mods and admins. Have edited and removed the link.

If you want to put a banner option to all users suggest it would be worth posting a new thread with a poll if there are a number of options then we/you can update the banner. Happy to run the poll if you wish and can send me some options.

Oh sorry about that, been swamped

If you want to start a poll for a new banner we can do so and have user rides in the it. They just need ot submit good clean high resoultion photsos with not obstructions or shadows.

Example where we have done that:
http://www.nissan-navara.net/
Ford Shelby GT500 Forum
TheXterra.org
Ford Powerstroke Forum

Thanks,
Jeff

@AG Jeff - are there any restrictions as to size - and can we have more than one? So if we have a selection of pictures can we rotate them on a say weekly basis?

thanks

Hmm all 3 links are..........
vibrant to say the least.

A semi naked lady draped over the bonnet/hood of an MGTF?
You could cover her ankles for the sake of decency

The lady would appeal to the male users of the forum and the car would appease Adi.Providing it was a clean/tidy example (the car)

The higher resoultion the better and we can get prob 5-7 cars in there depending on the layout.

Unfortunately we can not have rotating banners but it is something we have on the To Do list down the road. We get asked that a lot.

Sure, I will start recruiting women and do the photo shoot. Hoping the expense report gets approved.
