ex MGR Guy Joins Hyundai as Sales Director

From Autowired...

Pigounakis appointed sales director at Hyundai UK
EX MG-ROVER man, Guy Pigounakis (47) has been appointed UK sales director of Hyundai UK.Hyundai Motor UK Ltd became part of the global Hyundai operation in July this year when the South Korean-based manufacturer took control of the UK sales and distribution operation from the RAC Group."We are sure Guy will be up to the challenge of delivering on our volume and franchise profitability aspirations in an increasingly challenging market place. He is well known and very highly regarded within the industry and we are delighted he is joining HMUK," said managing director, Tony Whitehorn. Hyundai had its best sales performance in the UK with a 17% increase, securing a 1.5% market share.

Guy was one of the first people from MGR I spoke to, IRRC it was at the 2000 Motorshow. Hes always been a supporter of enthusiasts websites and was ever supportful towards us. I wish him the best at Hyundai, they've certainly got a top man for the job.

Congratulations and well done to Guy

I've only met him on two (very brief occasions. But he was very well respected by any dealer to whom I spoke. Anyone inside Longbridge who knew of him, again spoke very highly of him.

On the 2 occasions I did briefly meet him, it was pleasant to be recognised as an enthusiast who bought MGR products, rather than an inconvenience.

Regards

John

There are some around, but mainly US based, some soley dedicated to the Coupe as well. The odd thing is that mg-rover.org style sites are actually quite rare, you tend to get model focused forums rather than brand focused forums. The upcoming models from Hyundai actually do look quite good and it appears its only in the UK that Hyundai is seen as a cheap brand, outside the UK its got a bit of a better reputation. Something I don't doubt they will look to change, given the right products I'm sure they will.

That's right. Someone from here (who now has a ZS!) owns a UK forum for the Coupe models. And there's a couple of US ones too (e.g. newtiburon.com).

There's nothing that's as big or successful as this site though.

Single model forums seem odd to me. At some point the car is going to "fall from grace" so to speak, and what happens if the owner of the site gets a different car! At least with a brand forum, people can stick around as they progress through a manufacturers model line up

Guy is a very good - erm - guy. I've met him several times; he was involved with the MGF right from the inception. Very well respected.
