P0300 and P0170 when cold.

Hi Guys any suggestions? 2004 Stepspeed. On cold start the engine appears to over fuel (I can smell it). If I leave it idling the engine light comes on with P0300 and P0170 Multiple Misfire and fuel trim. If I drive the car away without letting it idle no fault appears. When warm it idles without a problem. I've no way of checking the fuel pump but as it runs well hot I've assumed that to be O.K. I've ruled out the cam sensor for the same reason.

I've changed, plugs and coil, fuel and air filter, MAP sensor, Inlet air intake valve, no obvious problems with hoses. When running the O2 sensors look fine. I'm running out of ideas any suggestions?

A P0170 (fuel trim, bank 1) is very frequently associated with a lambda sensor fault (bank 1 indicates the one in the exhaust downpipe below the manifold I think). Overfuelling is a common symptom when this sensor is not providing a correct signal to the engine ecu. It may be a poor contact in a connector, damaged wiring or a faulty sensor.
