MG GS Short Review for Car News China

Article's conclusion:
It looks nice, but is let down by its wheels. Interior is a tad too dark. And it just doesn't seem finished yet. Worrying.

That's very worrying if even the Chinese hacks can't say nice things.

I wouldn't give that article the credit of calling it a review. It's very similar to other 'reviews' on CNC, being amateur and nit-picky to the point of *****iness.

The ZS is the most convincing new MG so far and I am looking forward to seeing it here.

Edit: Just noticed I've triggered the swear filter! Must remember to use 1 for i next time...

One for summer: 2004 MG TF 135 in Firefrost
One for winter: 2002 MG ZS 120+in Solar Red

I can't say they've that many other bad reviews. There is nothing wrong with pointing out a few flaws in a car. In fact that's what consumers want reviewers to do rather than just presenting a perfect image when that's far from the truth.

The last clanger MG produced was the MG5 which we didn't get due to very poor early reviewed. Having driven on in Dubai I'm not surprised it never came here.

They definitely have a point about the wheels. I assume the UK will get larger wheels though.

I'm not suggesting the 'reviewer' should present a sycophantic review much like AE do with any VAG product, more one with a balanced tone that is fair and not so overwrought with vicious dislike.

The MG5 on the other hand got a bad rap and no doubt deservedly. Had it been any good, no doubt it would ave been brought here to plug the gap between the 3 and 6.

I wouldn't assume anything. Both the MG6 and the MG3 have been criticised for having wheels that look too small for European tastes.

As reviews go, I thought it wasn't too bad and I think we all agree that although the wheels are too small, it's unlikely to turn up here with those wheels anyway.

The last comment at the bottom of the article makes an interesting point.

Isn't it just some comments based on the pictures they've published rather than a review per se?

You'd certainly hope it's an early prototype. I do know a lot of manufacturers allow the press to drive early production cars but it is generally made explicitly clear that's what it is.
