Clutch advice needed.

4 months ago I bought a 2003 Streetwise 1.4 with 55000 miles. After a month when the frosty weather arrived the problem started= start engine-push clutch to engage gear-clutch pedal goes to the floor with no resistance-panic-push clutch many times,no improvement-after about 5 minutes with engine running there was a metallic twang noise and full clutch operation resumed. Even though the frosty mornings have gone the problem still persists, until the engine has been running for some time and I assume put some heat into the block/bellhousing the clutch is very reluctant to perform. I described the symptoms to my friendly*local garage and he said it's the hydraulic cylinders (even though he knows it's cable). Can any expert point me in right direction for a remedy. Thanks

Is the clutch release arm stuck? (the arm that the cable attaches to on the gearbox)

They are known to corrode where the arm locates on the gearbox and stop moving, or move very little..

- I had this problem some time ago.. you might not be able to see it without removing the battery box though..

Could be release bearing seizing too. Either way I think it'll be a gearbox out job to investigate.
