did they ever do electric body coloured wing mirrors on the 200?

someone's smashed off my mirror, so if possible I'd like to replace them both with an upgrade, thinking of electric mirrors if I have the wires already in place, I don't want 25 mirrors because I think they look stupid on a 200, so I'm wondering if they ever did body coloured electric mirrors in the 200 shape? or were they all plastic?

Personaly I think R25 mirrors looks much better on R200.

However, R200 R3 never had colour coded door mirrors. But if you want you can look for MG F door mirrors as they are colour coded and I think they are exactly the same as for R200 R3.

Garages
I fitted colour coded (nightfire) wing mirrors to my 200 bubble after the o/s one got smashed. Found them on the shelf in a scrappy, and they were the same shape as the ones that came off ie. not the teardrop shape on later 25's. Manual adjustment though...

is there a picture of the switch connector out there? I have read that being an older rover 200 it is likely the loom for the electric mirrors is already there, I don't fancy taking the door cards off just to check, but I have looked under the dash for the switch connector

there is a free connector there but it seems too far back to reach the slot where the mirror switch would be

I do not think any of R200 R3 were fitted with electric wing mirrors loom if they were fitted with manual mirors.
Some R25 were fitted with loom although manual mirrors were fit in gactory.

I needed to fabricate my own loom in order to implement electric wing mirrors on our R200 mk3.

do you have any more info you can share? I'm capable of doing the wiring but I'm a bit concerned about getting the door looms in and out

What do you need?
For doors in and out I needed to take connectors from donor car in order to extract needed pins which were implemented into my existing loom.

if need be I can do my own connectors, but I can't even see where the door loom comes into the car, do I have to have the dashboard out? or the front wing off?

No need for dash out or front wing off. You only need to remove trim below dash at area where existing cabels from central door locking enters from door to car body. And door card off. You do have central locking?

ok I just took one of the door cards off and there are no mirror wires there, if I want to do this I will need the door loom to come out so I can feed the wires through properly, but I've had a little fiddle and it's not obvious to me how I will get it out

When you open the front door you will see the rubber which goes from door to car body. On the side of the car body you have connector under widening part of rubber. If you unplug that connector you will be able to see how it looks.

On this picture you can see black wide part which is the one that goes to car body:

no I have a connector on the door only, where it goes into the car there is no connector, your picture looks like the door harness, what I'm having trouble with is the other bit

There is only the one connector - where the body loom meets the door. There isn't a connector where the loom goes through the A pillar - it is all part of the dash loom.

Ok, I mixed where the connector is, not on the side to body, but to the side of door. Sorry.

However, did you managed to remove trim inside the car from the bottom of A post in order to see wires that go further in the dash?

You will need extra male-female pins for this connector in order to have proper connection.

I removed the glove box, I doesn't look like removing more of the surrounding trim would help much, perhaps on the drivers side it would, the heater blower or whatever that is behind the glove box is what's really in the way, and I don't want to remove that unless I absolutely must

I will be up the scrap yard at the weekend looking for spare pins and connectors, if I can't find any I can actually just feed wire straight through the empty pin slots in the connector, it will defeat the purpose of the connector but it's not exactly something I'm going to be undoing a lot

the issue will still be feeding the wires through from the car to the door, it looks at the moment like the front wings will have to come off for me to get better access

I got all the bits I need from a ZR at the scrap yard, slight confusion though as the MGF mirrors have a 6 pin connector and the ZR has a different connector with only 5 pins, I have the other end of the MGF connector so I can solder it on, but I need to know which pin is which

I might be able to work it out myself, but if anyone has a wiring diagram for the mirrors on either the ZR or the MGF it would be very helpful to me

thanks
