Engine coolent empties daily. White smoke from exhaust

I have been checking the coolent level on my car every other day as i already know there seems to be a problem. I was driving today when the engine just cut out and died. When i opened up the bonet, the coolent tank was empty. I filled this back up with the emergency water bottle i carry with me in my boot and the car started again. However driving it home tonight, it died again and it's hard to see in the dark but looks like the tank is empty again. There is now alot of white smoke pumping out through the exhaust aswell.

If anyone has any ideas please help it would be greatly appreciated as im useless with cars, i really dont have a clue.

If you drive without coolant in the engine to the point where it stops running you may well do serious harm and there is a real danger that the head gasket will now be damaged and perhaps the cylinder head too.

Does your heater still blow hot? If not it is a good indication that there is no coolant flow and the engine should not be driven until it is sorted. This usually just means bleeding the air from the system, but there could be other reasons.

Check this thread about coolant leaks - Guide to Cooling System Leaks. Rover 200/25/400/45 + MG ZR/ZS K-series.

depends on damage done and your ability to repair wild guess 400-600 depends on what you do, ie water pump, cambelt, head skim, new stretch bolts MLS gasket etc etc
