Help, No Signal !

Help, I took my Rover 25 to the yearly Swedish car control center and my car was not approved because there was no signal from the onboard diagnostic connection. He connected and said "I'm getting no read-out what so ever". All electrical stuff works fine but he said "that makes no difference, fix it within a month or your car will not be allowed to drive on Swedish roads". Where do I start to look to fix this problem? Thanks

Was that the usual place you go to and it's read ok there in the past? As Ray said, may be worth spending a few euros on a cheap tester to try it yourself, fiddling with the connections if required.

connecting a normal reader to both of our ZR's and also previous one is always hit and miss

I cant seem to connect if engine is running

also, if you connect it after the ignition has been on a few moments [engine off] it seems the immobiliser can stop connection too, pressing fob button allows it to connect

I thought it was a fault with my reader, but have tried another with similar problems

there are terminals you can bridge to enable the earth, I think I have tried that too in the past to no effect.

good luck with it

Thanks for the tip. I have always taken it to the same test center and have never had this problem before, but there are always different testers that test your car. It could be something wrong with his test reader or he did not know how to test a Rover 25. What your saying is that if I buy the test reader you mention that it should give me a reading?

Send a message via MSN to E_T_V
What engine is it? And what age? Pre -04 diesels aren't OBD II compliant so probably won't talk to many generic readers.

I have the 1.6 engine and its a model year 2004. I would think that the Swedish car test centers would have a quality fault code reader that would cover all cars, including rover 25s.
