You have to remove complete central console surrounding, in order to see screws on the other side of gaiter, which you cannot see from above. Gaiter has metal ring (23) inside lower part of it, which is pressed to plastic by additional metal frame (23,26) held in place by 2 screws (22,26).
Make a brew, give yourself an hour and it is an easy enough job, just time
consuming, just make sure you have the keys to remove the radio if it uses
them to remove it, make a note of the things you unplug too.
on my 200 the shift knob just unscrews, also there is a bit of plastic that you have to unclip from the bottom of it to detatch the gaiter before it will unscrew properly, should be similar on the 25 I would think
I had cases in which extra drop of glue was inserted in the knob to stop them spining, and these were PITA to remove. Extra force needed to be used in multiple attempts, but they give up eventually.
When Rover stopped fitting the R65 gearbox to the K series engines of 1.6 litres and below, and switched to the IB5, they also switched from a threaded gear knob to a push-fit type. This change took place from 1st April 2003 (from VIN/serial number 720773), and affected all models of 25 and ZR (including the 1.8 and diesel models, although they continued to use the same PG1 gearbox).
As the car detailed in Bluesers profile is a 2004 Rover 25, it will have a push-fit gear knob. It 'should' come off with a good firm upwards tug, but some of them can be a tight fit.
Can not mute off lever. Is anyone taking off and in what way?
