Hi all, started my 2003 Rover 25 this morning and the engine revved like crazy. It was like I had the accelerator to the floor even though I wasn't pressing it. I couldn't stop it so turned off the engine. I tried again and it started normally but now the steering is really heavy like there is no longer any PAS. Any ideas? I've checked the fluid and its fine.
cheers ☺
Sounds like the belt snapped. Assuming it's a petrol engine, look down to the left of the engine bay. You should see 2 spinning belts. One drives the alternator and the other drives the power steering pump.
Sorry for the delayed reply, been away. Got it jump started this morning and both belts are spinning. Took it out for a spin, drives fine just obviously tight corners are a pain with no power steering.
surly if you take the belt off its bound to feel the same, how would this prove its the pump? Or would if feel different if it was a belt? I'm a bit confused? ? ?
Does sound as though the PAS pump has failed. The engine revving though sounds like a different problem.
