Rover 25 GTi Respray, Help me decide!

Heyy guys,
So I have recently acquired an excellent example of a 2000 Rover 25 GTi! Over the past week I have been removing the engine in prep for a rebuild and having the car resprayed. The paint work at the moment isn't the worst by any stretch of the word but it's also not the cleanest with a few cracks and alot of scratches noticeable up close. Because of this, and the fact im not a huge fan of the colour it is atm...I've decided a full respray is the way forward (also giving me the chance to strip the whole thing down and restore everything I possibly can whilst going on a HUGE learning curve). This is where it beings me here. I have 2 ideas in mind for the colour to go with; The first is a dark metallic gunmetal grey which I photoshopped on top of the original colour in an Instagram post here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BU1wO0bhCTq/ Alternatively, my other idea was to go with a darker blue (also metallic) colour like this fantastic example of a GTi: https://images.honestjohn.co.uk/imag...r-25-gti-1.jpg

I hope you can see my dilemma here as I really am stuck between the two so hopefully you guys could cast your opinion on them both.

Thanks Alot,
Lewis

Out of the ones you have looked at I would go with the grey. But personally if you are going off the original paint list for Rover/MG I like the metallic BRG, HFF code.

Always had a thing for dark metallic blue, so that gets my vote.

If you've got a few days and want to see how far you can go for restoring a bubble check this project out over on RoverTech:

I'd look at a brighter (trophy) blue if it's a complete respray. But grey, out of the two colours given..

Can't go wrong with black. But the grey is good too. I'd love to change the colour of my van but I'll never afford it...

Dear God, not another grim, unimaginative and characterless grey

Definitely not grey. Tahiti Blue is a better choice but I quite like the standard Sienna Gold to be honest (looks good with dark ZR headlights).

It is, of course, your car. Go with the 'gut' feeling and choose the colour that pulls you most. We're all different, and for everyone who loves Country and Western there's another who lives for Death Metal. Please yourself.

I do, personally, think grey is a overly safe choice It's almost not choosing a colour but going with the shade least likely to offend the next buyer.
For a small car like a 25 I'd favour a light shade- have you seen Celestial?

Big cars can be 'too much' in bright colours (ever seen a yellow ZT?) but small cars can benefit from the extra presence a bright colour adds to them.
My TF 115 is presently very sick, and if I ever bring her back to life I hope to renovate her tired paint like this:

My Mrs is strongly opposed, as she reckons (living in Scotland) one of the local Psycho-Nats would vandalise it. I reckon it's worth the risk to have something special.

If you have a good relationship with your sprayer then discuss options on how
to improve the original gold colour and make it more deep and metalic and less
flat, you would save money not needing to do the door and boot shuts plus the
engine bay, would be in the vein of OEM but giving the car a more modern and
unique look.

Wow cheers guys for the massive response! Didn't expect so many people would help me out! I'm definatley going to investigate futher into some colors from the original rover list as well as some brighter ones. I guess I liked the grey because it gave it more of a stealth look, however, looking at it from other viewpoints does kind of spoil it for me.

I'll keep you up to date with my decisions and may even start a thread for the rebuild of the car itself? I have a TON of pictures so far and would be great to share them!

Thanks again guys,
Lewis
