I don't come here as often as I should....but something happened today that I thought I would share.
My beloved Rover 25 I have had for 7 years & 11 months had a close meeting with a HGV yesterday morning head-on. Sadly the car is a write-off, but I came out of it unscathed thankfully.
Here's the pics that tell the story:
Tomorrow I have the task of removing all the bits I have put in the car over the years & want to take out, in the hope of putting them into another bubble shaped car from Longbridge
These include the follow: EXTERIOR
Wheels
Rear Brake Drums
Rear Lights
Wind Deflectors
Exhaust Trim
Mud Flaps
Mirror Caps
Sunroof Seal
Rear Spoiler
INTERIOR
Sill Plates
Mats
Heater Control Knobs
Stereo
Arm Rest
Rear View Mirror
Gear Knob
Steering Wheel
Electric Sockets
Remove Aerial from Windscreen
Spare Wheel
Boot light
Boot tray
Drivers speaker
Front Seats
Front Shelf mat
Rear Window Isolator switch
Battery Clamp
ODB Adapter
I have been looking around for another IXL, but I was surprised that Rover 25's themselves seem very few & far between in this part of the world now. As an example, Autotrader only has 5 Rover 25's within 60miles of my location.
I would love another IXL, but I may have to make do with another lesser model as an interim measure.

Shame that your nice car will be a write-off for, say, so little damage.
Two years ago my former 214Gsi was hurt by a deer and the left wing & the left lights were broken and even the bonnet a wee bit damaged.
I had to struggle with the insurance, the car being 23 years old, but I managed to get it repaired. I added just a very little extra sum.
But in France the remaining Rovers & MGs are not so cheap as in the UK and I have an insurance premium: when finally the 214GSi was broken by my wife who didn't stop at a junction (!!!), they gave me 2,800€ (£2,183) to buy another car... And I got my 25 for just a bit less (2,500€ - £1948)!
Judging by the pictures the truck was on the wrong side of the road so should be at fault. The damage to the car is rather moderate, does not look like a technical write off, main damage is front bumper and fender. See that the truck has foreign plates (Dutch), so their insurance in Holland should cover the damage. In view of the low value of such cars in the UK they are already written off with a few scratches by insurers. Here in Holland the 'day value' of such a Rover 25 is about EUR 3.800,-, and cars are only written off if accident damage is higher. Suggest to go after the truck company or the Dutch insurer directly (without involvement of an UK insurer), maybe a deal can be cut to fix the car
Suggest to do the following:
1. Get a (specified) repair estimate from you local panel beater of around EUR 2,000.-.
2. Hold the truck company (Kwinten) liable for the damage.
3. File your claim with the truck company by using the repair estimate, add something like EUR 35/day for the time you cannot use the car (during repair), as you need to use an other (rented) car.
The truck company may be willing to settle this outside of their insurance, as often they have a high deductible and want to keep their insurance record clean to avoid an increase in premium.
Thank you for all your suggestions....it is with a heavy heart that I am accepting it being written off.
The bumper, bonnet & wing are damaged. It's also pushed back the metal part behind the bumper which has dislodged the power steering fluid bottle. The headlight casing is broken, but it still works. I managed to drive the car home, about 20 miles. The aircon pipe ruptured the top of the radiator, so had to keep checking the coolant level on the way home.
The lorry driver did admit fault. He didn't notice a car had stopped in front of him to turn across the road & swerved to avoid it which meant going on to my side of the road, and I had nowhere to go.
Thankfully I wasn't going very fast, I'm guessing no more than 30mph. The airbag didn't deploy, and I wasn't thrown forward at all. It was like a gentle coming together, and the crumple zone did its' job. The car didn't even skid on the wet surface.
The car does have a bad oil leak which I had planned to get fixed, but not sure where the leaks were, so may have been costly. The braking system needed looking at too, and I had planned to have the brake disks replaced, as advisories on last MOT said the braking system was just above the valid limits.
Also the car has reached 174,400 miles, so I'm not sure how much life it would have left in it.
She has served me well, and I hate to see these cars written off, and I am sure someone more competent could see it fixed, but unfortunately I can't do it. So now I need to find another car :crying2:
Sounds as though the inner wing/front sidemember is bent (and therefore, probably the front panel also). Unless ironeagle has the required tools and skills to straighten and repair it himself, such repair is just not viable on a 14 year old car with nearly 175 thousand miles on the clock unless it is something extra special.
Sorry to see this, but relieved it was a relatively minor one, and no injury other than the car. It's surprising how relatively superficial visible damage can be hiding more serious distortion behind. Hope you are able to find a replacement in as good condition.
It was the Aircon pipe that ruptured the radiator causing the coolant leak.
Ironically I bought a new radiator for the car late last year, but never got round to fitting it and is still in my garage all boxed up.
Bad luck - hopefully you'll find a suitable replacement.
Tbh, in your position, with that damage and mileage I'd scrap the car and use the money on a replacement. Could go for a diesel with you increased mileage?
Don't forget Ebay/Gumtree if you're looking for a replacement. Autotrader selling fees are relatively high so less likely to find them advertised there.
I've been scouring all those for the last few days....there isn't much about in my local area....but have got 3 or 4 to look at over the weekend....I need something before Wednesday
I had a prang on Xmas eve myself were some twonk cut the roundabout.
Unfortunately he denied liability despite semi-admitting it was his fault at the scene, so going 50/50.
My car's gone through the insurance and finally got it back today! (not written off, actually repaired!) Although it was the one panel (wing) and some paint damage to the bumper.
I know it sounds sad, but I don't know any other car available that I know inside out
Anyway, here's some final fairwell pics of my car, after I restored everything on here from when I bought her 7 years & 11 months ago
and on her final journey to the local CoPart depot in Sandwich, about 2 miles from where I had the accident....maybe she will be back on the road one day, who knows, but I do hope she does live on :crying2:

Glad you are looking at sticking with MGR a bit longer though
I've repaired worse than that! There's not s lot too them. All that's going to be bent is the lower cross member which you can pull out or replace, and the upper slam panel -which again can be pulled out
You probably have, but if you weren't able to do the repairs youself, what would a bodyshop charge for doing the work? and would you want to pay that sum out on a 14 year old high mileage car? I don't think I would, however attached to the car I were.
From how far back the headlamp has ended up, I think you will find the sidemember/inner wing is bent - not easy to straighten succesfully
I have had the valuation from the insurance company today....surprisingly more than I thought it would be, but relieved, as it does go some way towards paying for the replacement.
Any guesses?
Also I noticed this in the FAQ's
Can I buy the car back?
It is not our policy to allow this because the Government and the Association of British Insurers have issued guidelines to all insurance companies with specific instructions on what must be done with written off cars.
Also received today a letter from the other insurance company accepting liability. They offered me a hire car free of charge for upto £25 a day....which would have been a 1.4 Corsa or Fiesta. Shame that came through so late and I don't need it now
