Just looking at getting the software to do the diagnostics (and key fobs, etc) on my 2005 ZR160 Mk 2.
Which one do I need? I've heard the T300 mentioned, and they're not that stupidly expensive, but is there stuff I need to look out for to make sure it'll do my car? Are there others?
I have seen a report somewhere on the web saying it works on the 5AS security system but you need to buy another cable because the 5AS uses a different pin, I think you can get the cable on ebay. It also does all the fault diagnosis, and apparently is quite capable.
In terms of general auto diagnostics the Delphi DS150e is excellent, it reads absolutely everything on my 220, and the compatibility list includes all the Rover and MG models since the mid 90s (and just about every other car on the road). Autocom is another make and I believe it's basically the same sytem. I could never connect it to my 5AS but then the T4 can't either (I think it's a fault with my car not the tester).
There is another system out running on iPad and Android called x431. I've never used it but might be worth a look. You buy the adapter plug for a few pounds, download the main software to a tablet for free, then just pay for the make of car you want to install and download it. I have no idea how good it is, maybe someone here has used it?
He hasn't got 5as - his 160 has the Pektron system.
As far as I know, the only tools for communicating with the SCU for the purposes of programming fobs are the dealer T4, and one made by Avon (which the T300 is a pirated copy of).
I think the other tools/software available for general diagnostics work won't program fobs, and most won't do much more than a basic OBD2 code reader.
Quite right, not 5AS, I didn't look at the details.
Apparently the T300 does do the Pektron as well though, along with a huge range of other cars so probably a good investment. Once you've coded up fobs for a few friends you'll have it paid for.
Yup, got the Pektron and I've given up on the thought of programming key fobs so diagnostics are all I need.
