where is the ECU and replacing

couple of questions
where is the ECU on a 52 plate 1.4?
can I just change the ecu with another 1.4 or 1.6 petrol Rover 25 and do I need to change/program anything?

thanks 2006cdt

Engine ECU is beside car battery, on the left hand side of the engine bay (right hand side if you are standing in front of open bonnet toward the front of the car).
Engine ECU is paired with alarm ECU and they work with fobs. If you are lloking for new engine ECU you will need to take either as set (engine ECU, alarm ECU with two fobs), or take engine ECU which is programmed not to seek foe alarm ECU, or to go to someone who can do the programming.

Being 52 plate car I assume she has sqare two button fob? If so, alarm ecu is bolted ont the firewall way above the pedals. Look on the sticky I posted in your another thread.

You may ask @lolsteve98, supporter of this forum. He did a brilliant job for me (mind you that I'm living in France!), fully deactivating the immobiliser on the ECU (and doing as well a fantastic remap): thus I was able to keep my fobs that are working very well with the new ECU.

What's the reason you need to swap the ecu?

^^^^ see his other thread: Rover 25 1.4 wont start.

His daughters boyfriend tried jump starting the car and melted the jump lead insulation - I suspect the leads were connected incorrectly and it has probably fried the engine ECU.

This happens when the security requirement of the ECU is removed.

Check the engine bay fuses, had something similar happen to the ZS a while back (jump starting in the dark is asking for trouble) . I believe under closer inspection it turned out to be the main fuse or something of that nature whereas we had also thought it'd done in the ECU

I can reset a second hand ecu to learn the immobiliser codes so it'll run with your car to save messing with fobs and 5as/SCU or Technozen on here does an excellent job at immobiliser free ECUs or you could get a T4 operator to recode the ECU. So plenty of choice.

If you're certain it's the ECU id be happy to check it for you if you post it to me, can then tell you if it is goosed or if something else is amiss.
