I've just been a bought some rear pads to put in my ZR 160. Easy job or so i thought!!
How do you get the calliper piston back in? Are there any trick methods?
You will need a small G clamp a couple of quid from somewhere like wilkinsons. The face of the piston protect with some thin rubber or other protective material wind in the clamp slowl till it contacts the piston. Then slowly wind in further till the piston retracts into the body. Warning though while you do this check your brake fluid resevoir level as it will rise.
as stu said the rear are wind back but unfortunetly the haynes manual does not state this, get yourself a rewind tool from any car part shop for about £17. take your time with this as a mate of mine rushed and knackered the piston
Quick easy job, take your time as not to twist the rubber protective boot. One tip is to leave the piston "plus shape" nice a square as the peg on the back of the pad needs to sit inside one of the slots.
Well, job done, 25 mins either side. Instead of brute force trying to force the piston back, the chisel simply twisted the piston back in.
Thanks again for your advises.
