120 (Auto) stalling from cold

Most of the time when the car is started from cold, it stalls as you put the selector into drive. We've found a way round it and that is to put the car into reverse for a second or so and then put it into drive. It's also fine when warm

Any ideas why it would do this?

Thank
Mike
