Talking Just installed electric rear windows in the ZS

And didn't realise just how easy it really is, liberated a scrap 45 of its rear window mechanisms, switches and door looms, simply swapped them over onto the ZS and hey presto, working rear electric windows! all the wiring to the doors and the regulators where already in the car!

now i just need to figure out a way to cover the gaping holes left by the window winders lol

anyone thinking of doing this mod just do it! its so simple even i can do it, the hardest part is getting the damn clip out the back if the window winder handle!

cheers all

Roo

What year is your ZS? Mine is an early 02 and doesn't have the wiring plugs for the switches under the console.

One for summer: 2004 MG TF 135 in Firefrost
One for winter: 2002 MG ZS 120+in Solar Red

The early ZS had looms that only had a wiring loom to suit the spec of the car, later cars had a multi application looms to save costs.

My mk2 was easy to fit rear electrics, the mk1 was hard work.

Couple of options for door cards, fit some tweeters as I did on one car, mg wheel centre caps that I sprayed anthracite on m boys ZS ocorrect door cardsnas I did on mine. I have a set of rear door cards for rear electric window cars in the shed but they are for a mk1 with door card top trim, I have wood or ZS grey trim.

Cheers TC.

I have no intention of retrofitting rear electric windows, but it's nice to know how easy (or not) it might be.

It is a fairly easy task this. I was shocked at being able to do it as I am not very handy with the spanners.

Mk2 cars as stated do have most of the loom fitted. Mine was only missing the door to body loom.

Its a worthwhile and fairly cheap modification.

I would just look out for a set of the correct door cards. A lot of mk2 45's had rear electrics so there should be plenty around.

Not all mk2s have the wiring for rear windows and the poverty spec didn't even have electric fronts. I did both our mk2 s about 6 years ago, took an hour to do each car. On my ZS I took parts from a mint 45 that had only done 22000 miles before it was rear ended. I also got full leather interior at same time along with climate control parts. On my sons ZS I picked up parts from an earlier 45 but door cards were damaged, fitted tweeters in holes lol.
Got a mk2 sat outside my daughters with heated front seats, rear electric windows, parking sensors, haonda front interior light and Laguna rear interior light all fitted by myself along with climate control conversion. Been sat for 5 months as she has new Nissan SUV lol. When weather is a bit warmer and my back is up to it be scrapping it as she can't be bothered with it lol. Shame as it went through mot in August no advisories again but no market for these cars now.

my ZS is a 2006 (work that out) model and had all the wiring in place, as above i also have heated front seats, fog lamps, now rear electric windows and all the wiring was already in place!

Bren i may be interested in those rear door cards without the holes if you are possibly interested in selling them? i am going to fit some mk1 door cards to the mk2 providing they fit with a mk2 dash

No probs mate, I have mk1 door cards in mine. Straight swap only difference is bit more padding in places and the top trims. I will have to dig them out and pop a pic on for you.
