centering the steering rack

This thread talks about locking the steering wheel in the centre position, which I guess means using the normal steering lock which is activated when turning the wheel without the key in?

Four wheel tracking for my Rover 75

is this the only way to centre the steering, does the rover 75 not have a way to centre the steering rack by inserting a bolt somewhere like other cars do?

The steering wheel is 'centred' (straight ahead position) and 'locked' using a mechanical brace on the wheel. This is (should be) done before the track rods are slackened off for the tracking to be done. I don't believe the steering lock provided by te ignition key system is used for tracking/centering. The rack itself will be centred when this is done- unless the rack has been removed and refitted incorrectly. I think that would be most unlikely from a practical standpoint.

this is not a technique I am familiar with. you wouldn't happen to have a picture showing this mechanical brace?

Maybe it can (with the ignition lock) but that's not what tracking stations use.
