LPG conversion 1.8T rover 75


I would be grateful for any information on the folowing.

I recently got a new rover 75 1.8T, and after speaking to "greenfuel " and another garage the information i received was that it was possible to go ahead with a LPG conversion and there were no problems (greenfuel said they have done some before.
the conversion recommended by greenfuel was a PRINS one, It has now been fitted and all in all it works pretty well, sometimes itll cut back to petrol ( even when the tank is full of LPG). but i am dissapointed with the fuel economy on the LPG ( 24mpg). On petrol with my kind of driving im consistently getting 35+( measured by filling up and calculating mileage), mostly motorway/dual carriage way, and on this scale the garage and myself would expect around the 30mpg from the LPG.

Has anybody out there had this conversion/know anything about it, ie settings, the garage thinks its possible that the settings may need tweeked but it appears theyre having a hard time getting information, ( ive contacted greenfuel regarding other conversions theyve done on this car, although they say they have done some, theyre pretty quite on getting back on any settings that may have been used.

would appreciate any info you guys have out there.

system has a bedding in period,so it may get better,ask for the automatic changeover to petrol to be switched off then u can do it manually when it runs out-tank pressure can vary a lot so the system thinks its empty when its not,I have a rover 620ti on LPG,system tartarini,generally find I get 3mpg less than on petrol (27-30mpg on a run)

lpg conversion

this makes interesting reading.I'm thinking of converting (75 tourer)and I spoke to greenfuels who told me I would halve my fuel costs by converting.They insist that this is true but what you have experienced suggests otherwise.I think I'd like to be sure of accurate figures before I fork out 2k.
Going off the point a little, last week I didn't use aircon at all and the consumption on a quarter tank improved from 60 to 80 miles - i read somewhere it can make about 20% difference so this improvement surprised me,Maybe this might contribute to better mpg for you- could lpg be less efficient for running aircon- that is if you actually use it.Just a thought.I;dbe interested to hear comments from greenfuels.

From my personal experience that is right. The fuel cost about 40-45% of the cost of unleaded and even with a drop in MPG, it still works out at around half the priceper mile.

hi all i run a mg ztt but the 2.5 160 i have a 70 liter lpg tank in the wheel well on average when filling up it costs 20 to 23 depends on how full the station tank is i get around 210 to 240 miles on a fill up not worked out what the mpg is but the wife has a clio i put 20 of petrol in it gets me about 190 miles so as i see it my 2.5 liter if like a small car to run but with all the fun of a big car and i have had no problems it runs very well

FORGET the MPG issue, ignore that figure - but use the "How much has it cost me to travel 100 miles (or so)" then you'll be happier!

I had a conversion done an a 2 litre volvo 460 around 5 years ago, from memory I used to get around 35mpg on petrol and 27mpg on LGP - but to be honest my driving style changed dramatically on gas - something to do with it costing 32p a litre at the time!

I think the usual claim was 10% reduction in mpg, but i think 15% would be more realistic. You also benefit from longer engine life on gas.

incidently the price for conversions has gone through the roof since I had mine done - I paid 850 + vat with a 85L tank, I looked earlier this year and they had just about doubled.

Incidently you used to be able to get it done FAR cheaper in Italy, the price differnece been enough to make the drive to italy worth while - all the main manufacturers were italian.

One other thought - quite a few range rover specilaists carry out the work fairly cheaply - you might be able to convince one of them to do it. The place I knew about was on the A38 just south of Burton on Trent (Wychnor) - they were converting range rover/landies in a day....
