Programming replacement key for Rover 75 KV6

I've just received my new replacement spare key for my 2002 Rover 75 Conn Tourer (I only got one key when I bought the vehicle recently). Cost £110 (A$286) complete with barcode. Now I've got to programme it to the car (or is it the car to the key?).

I'm sure I've seen how to do this somewhere, but for the life of me can't find instructions now, and a search of this site didn't produce the goods. Can someone tell me step by step what to do?

Thanks.

You need a Dealer or someone with Testbook to programme the car to the key.

Before you pay to have the key programming from the barcode, check that the immobiliser chip in the key is the one for your car, programming from the barcode is only to sychronise the key with the alarm/central locking. The immobiliser chip in the key is factory set for the car it was supplied for, it cannot be reprogrammed.

Bump.....please can someone advise, I have exactly this problem.

One key, no spare key-then yesterday my 5 year old son shut the car key into the house door frame (my fault for leaving them there), and has smashed the "key" from the transponder.

You could try a blank blade for a new Mini or the E46 3 series BMW. My local Timpsons say they can cut the blade, but in the book of keys under 'Rover'it says 'see dealer'. If you supply a blade then they can cut it.

Question Programming replacement key for Rover 75 KV6

Hi all, I bought a previously owned Rover 75 with 1 key which starts the car. the alarm/locking keys on fob was broken so i sent it to a specialist for repairs. after receiving the replaced FOB i am having problems programming to the car. it looks fine led on Fob flashes when pressed starts the car but cannot opperate central locking by remote.

I have tried resetting the fob by removing battery & pressing buttons approx 10 times to drain, insert batt then locked all doors with key then unlock only driver side then press lock button 4 times rapidly with no success.
is there anything i'm missing?

Get in touch with immoman, he is a member on this site, he will advice you on anything to do with keys etc, he is in the north west, you haven't put a location on your profile, so not sure if he is near you or not.
