The 1.8 turbo is possibly the most fragile of the K-series engines but that's not to say it won't be reliable - correct maintenance and usage is key. While head gasket failure is not guaranteed, it is common but if caught early and treated properly then it shouldn't fail again (repeat failures are usually down to poor workmanship and/or the original cause of failure not being addressed).
The 1.8T was produced in a fairly light state of tune, with 150ps on the 75 and 160ps on the ZT. 200ps can be achieved with a remap and a few other mods.
