V6 cam belt noise

Hi, I recently bought a 10 year old 2.0L v6 auto with 35,000 miles and a first class history. The car is superb in every way except when the car runs from cold there is a whining noise coming from the belts which quietens after around three miles. The belts were changed after 6 years. Has anyone else noticed this and do you think it is a problem?

Thanks

Are you sure that it's the cambelts? Might be worthwhile semi-removing the alternator drive belt. You don't need to fully remove it, just back off the tension and stuff it up out of the way. You could let it idle and see if the noise was still there which would let you elimanate the drive belt, alternator bearings or power steering pump from your enquiries.

It could perhaps also be the bearings on the idler/tensioner.

Mine used to make this noise, but it has stopped I guess about 5000km after new belts fitted.

Just physically check the belt is not touching on the casing anywhere, so inspect it, especially at the edges.

Hi i would advise you to have this checkout ASAP, i do not believe all that on paper buts that just me, it could be something simple or a warning sign???? you don't want them belts to snap or you will need a new engine, Steve
