I see NOS clutch (slave) cylinder seals are available on the Ebay for around a tenner. I'm not sure I trust 20 y/o rubber parts, though, and that also seems a bit steep for what they are.
Are there any alternatives? Some of the MG parts people don't say their rebuild kits are NOS, but does that mean they're actually new?
Are the rubbers interchangeable with those from any other car/model?
Does anyone have experience installing NOS rubbers fairly recently? Were they still OK, or starting to go hard?
Bought new rubbers from Rimmer Bros in the end. Don't look 20 years old, say Xpart, so hopefully they're newish. Clutch pedal feel is massively improved, at least for now - we'll have to see if it lasts.
I would say it all comes down to how the parts have been stored to be honest, which you/us will almost certainly never discover anyway.
The three things that cause rubber to degrade the most are heat, light and chemical(s) attack. Therefore if the parts are kept boxed or wrapped and away from heat sources and chemicals they should last for a very long time.
The question then of course is: how long is a very long time?
At the end of the day I guess it all comes down to necessity. If your only choice is NOS to get your car back on the road, what are you going to do?
Then again, perhaps the parts are actually fairly new non OEM parts, but the Seller(s) thinks it sounds better to call them NOS to give us more confidence to buy. Again, almost certainly we will never find out.
