Dodgy plate!!

In the heat today my rear number plate fell off, and underneath was another. I thought the garage I bought it from had double sided a new plate on over the top of the old one with there name on it, which they had but my daughter noticed (not me to my shame) that the old plate had a different reg!! There was an E where there should have been an F. Was a previous devious owner trying to avoid speeding fines by having a different rear plate?

Checked it online and it is not a registered plate, was worried she may have been a ringer for a mo or two.

If the vehicle is still new then it is possible to re register it on a later plate.
I.e. If it is in a show room registered and not sold the it is possible to register it again if it was sold a year or two later.

You need to work out which registration it should be and get it registered and insured in your name! I'm surprised the insurance company didn't make a fuss though if it is an invalid number.

Could be that someone at the selling dealership (or whoever supplies their registration plates) had simply made the error on the rear plate and it had been affixed to the car before anyone noticed, so they just got another plate made up correctly and simply stuck it on over the incorrect one (perhaps not wanting to try and remove it for fear of pulling some paint off with it?).
