Interior Lights

Hi All
Not been on here for a while but I have now bought another car which requires some TLC

My question is
The PO has taken the15amp fuse out that works the interior light, time clock and radio
When I replace the fuse the radio and clock work and so do the interior light but the lights won't turn off
Where should I start to look

Many thanks

Are they switched on at the rear view mirror?

The interior lights are controlled by the Lucas 5AS alarm ECU using a signal from the micro switch in the door lock. The lights on the mirror can additionally be switched on by the switches on the mirror when the doors are shut.

My guess is that one of the micro switches has failed.

Yes they are all on

Is it a difficult job to replace the relay?

Cheers

Not done it myself, but my brother changed all of his. There are a number of "how to's" out there, I even saw one on ebay a while back. Best bet is to google how to change pektron relays...in fact just done that and top of the list is the ebay guide

Hi All
I've changed the multi function relay and no difference!
I put the fuse back in and all the interior lights stay on ALL the time.

Talkingcars mentioned micro switches, where do I look for them?

OR

Anymore ideas please?

Cheers

Just a thought!

If you turn on your headlights with both doors closed, do you get an lights warning beeper? If so would indicate problem is with driver door lock mechanism faulty.

If you get no beeper, but then open the driver door, you should then get lights warning beeper, indicating passenger door lock mechanism faulty.

If you never get the beeper...then I dunno

Micro-switches are in the door lock assemblies.

Hi

No key in ignition

Lights on
Doors closed
Alarm light flashing
No warning buzzer

Open Drivers door (nothing from passengers door)
Buzzer sounds
Alarm light solid

Cheers

Just checked my mates car and his warning buzzer doesn't sound when opening the passenger door!

So my question is why do you say I have a problem with the passenger side mechanism?

Cheers

It is correct that opening the passenger door does NOT make the warning buzzer sound.

My logic:-

Open driver door, buzzer sounds. This indicates that the driver door lock micro-switch is working, as the buzzer is sounding when switch operates.
Therefore fault is most likely with the passenger door lock micro-switch.

If the warning sound was on all the time, then i would suggest driver door lock mechanism.

If you look at the electrical drawings, you should be able to simulate the micro-switches at the connecting socket and isolate precisely if fault is with door lock mechanism.

What type of fob you have? Oval one with logo in the middle or square one with two buttons?
I am asking this to be able to know what car we are talking about. Is it MG F mk1, mk2 or MG TF mk1 or mk2.

When you say your interior lights are on, you mean your rearview mirror map lights and your footwell lights are all on?
If so, then your problem is toward connection to multifunction unit. I think yiu are calling it multifunction relay? You sad you changed it. That is red box on the other side of fusebox under steering wheel? Is that correct?

If above is correct, they you have somwhere point where pink/red wire connected to interior lights is getting earth connection. It can be either somwhere where some additional work on car was done on electrics, or it can be on connector to multifunction unit.

Once I encounterd problem of small portion of wire in the connector was making connection between earth wire and other wire. It might be usefull to make a check of that connector. If not, you have some point where this connection of pink/red wire is made to earth, and because of that you have your interior lights always on.

THE CAR IS NEW TO ME SO I HAVE NO IDEA OF ANY ELECTRICAL WORK

Thank you for the information
