Question Mgf starting problem

Hi i had a 1998 MGF given to me that would nt start had been standing for 2 years after it broke down i hooked up a battery and cranked it over it weakly fired but didnt start spoke to my uncle who has a garage he said to start with the simple stuff took out the spark plugs and gave them a quick clean checked the leads for cracks cleaned the distributer cap and checked for cracks cranked it over again and after a few minutes it spluttered into life it miss fired when reved but on tick over it was fine left it running for about 10 minutes still would nt rev propely then died on me it restarted again with a wimper but not for long,so carried on going to coil and crank sensor the sensor tested ok but cant find any info on the resistance for the coil does any body know what the reading should be?

Fresh fuel added old fuel will not help!

Any more news on how/why it broke down?

I would start by doing the folowing:

Change the rotor arm and dizzy cap.

Change the leads.

Change the plugs.

Change the fuel filter.

Check the air filter.

Check the timing.

Then see what you get.

If it has a dizzy and rotor arm, change them. They are a weak point.
