MGF Trophy Hardtop

The roof on my Trophy is getting a bit tatty and the zip no longer works so I was thinking about switching to a hardtop. I've got a couple of questions though before I go ahead with it.

1. Can the hard roof be removed quite easily? So if it's a nice day and it's not going to rain can I take it off and just drive around with no roof whatsoever?

2. It's a Y reg (2001), is it a TF roof that I want?

Thanks.

I found this on another thread so presumably it answers my second question........

"........roof and frame from any year will fit any year from 1996 to 2009"

The hard top secures with two catches at the front, same type as those on the soft top, and two catches at the back/sides. So hardtop on and off is just 4 catches, easy if a bit heavy for one to do.

The hardtop fits over the folded soft top so you can just add the hardtop over the soft top.

Is you car a late MGF or a pre-production TF?

a trophy blue hard top, or any mgf hard top will fit an F or TF, that isnt the problem when one is trying to put it on or take off alone. It is stopping the roof slipping or unbalancing while one holds it with both hands, since if one is doing it alone, and cannot keep the roof balanced, then one does not have any spare hands to stop the roof damaging the body paint, since they are occupied keeping hold of the roof... .i.e slip - and knackered screen surround paint and/ or door paint..It is best done with two persons holding it... since both persons have one free hand to position the roof in the event of mismanagement.
Taking the roof off, is easier than putting it on.

When driving, or just taking it off and on?

I'm not really clued up on the various editions but the V5 says it was first registered in Aug 2001 and the Model/Type is MGF Trophy 160.

Yours is a mk2 MGF.

The good news is that the hardtops will fit all variants from 1996 to 2009.

My response is not rude, and I am sorry you do not understand.

In many markets Autumn 1995 would be MY 1996.

Would agree with the comments that it's a 2 man job to fit. Also make sure you've got somewhere to stow it during the summer as it's not the easiest thing in the world to hide away.

If you want to use the heated rear windscreen you'll also need the relay and the switch for the dash.
