New years resolutions - What do you need to do to the f or tf this year.

We all have things we need to get around to doing.
I just wondered what you should/maybe/should not be doing for our f 'n' tf's in 2017.

MY SHOULDS.
  • I SHOULD really get to the bottom of the battery drain issue.
  • Resolder the drivers window relay again.
  • Darn a small hole in the roof.
  • Drive with the roof off more often.

My Maybes.
  • Drill out the key hole in a new coloured near side handle and paint to match. (1.6 tf).
  • Change the front tyre to match the others.
  • Get out on an MG official run

My Should nots,
Reinsure with the same company again.
Let a tyre place torque the rims up to 150nm ( the same as a range rover)

I should rebuild the engine on my red 1996 F
I should change the engine on my Trophy blue 2003 TF
I should refit (as in change to full leather) the interior and change water pump/timing belt on my ginger 1996 F
I should replace all subframe mounts on my red 2003 1.6 TF
I should replace windscreen and rear wheel bearings on my 2002 Trophy blue TF
I should sort out water/overheat issue on my other 2003 Trophy blue TF
I should decide what I'm doing with my silver 1999 F which a chimney put landed on the rear quarter crushed it big tim
And finally I should change the front wings on my 75th anniversary F

Reality is, the "I should" should be changed to "I must" as I've too many projects and not enough room any more....problem is, I've a long drive but no garage to work from and not enough hours in the day to do the work needed

I fixed mine by using a small patch from a bicycle puncture repair kit and sticking it on the inside. You wouldn't know it's there.

I think someone stuck a screwdriver through it when they didn't get an answer to the door one Halloween

Mk1 VVC

Drop subframes and fit TF subframes, 160 engine, MEMS3 patch lead, transfer ABS front hubs, adapt BMW E92 side skirts and fit, get an MOT

and DRIVE the damn thing.

Mk1 MPi

Finish refitting front end, cure leak (I suspect header tank is cracked), get an MOT, and pass it on to my son-in-law or sell it.

TF135

Finish striping and scrap.

Wow. I'm exhausted just reading your list!
And how many Mgs do you have? (slightly shocked).
I designed a simple garage the other year. I'm now looking for a second house hopefully with a garage. I think for mg owners it is a necessity.

When I was abroad I had the misfortune to have a cig burn in my roof. I have re woven in the same green my roof is. The job is great until the sun comes out. The uv lightens the acrylic thread. I then have to start all over again for the next year. The burn did not go through the lower layers of the roof , just the mohair part.

I agree - drive the MG. I only have the one MG. I tend to drive it even when I don't need to go out. I think most of it's miles are from me just feeling like a drive. Having an extra TF for spares would be nice though. Hmm, note to self - I need a bigger driveway.

Who knows? Maybe sell it and get something different. Either way, lots more topless fun this year.

7 (one car appears twice?)?

We only have 5 and 2 halves (ZS, ZR, 2 Fs, T16 maestro, 1/2 a TF and 1/2 a ZS and enough spares to build another car at least).

  • A nice collection.
    Ive not seen so many F's and TF's in one place. I also don't get out much!
  • It's official - I have driveway envy. Hopefully that will change this year.
  • Also I understand there is a new F and TF addiction service available on the NHS.

8 cars is a bit too much for me

But here you go with my lists

SHOULD:

* Change O/S front wing
* Full LED bulb conversion (external)
* Braking line replacements
* N/S Caliper replacement
* Uprated braking pads
* Oil change
* Front headlights re-chrome
* Rear brake hose SS replacement
* Door cards replacements (they are broken)
* N/S door solenoid replacement (lights not coming up)
* Grease suspensions

WANTED:
* Remove that greenish cockpit light for a normal with LED light (no, blue is not of my liking)
* Put some added anodised interiors bits
* Cover windshields mounts with leather
* Full carpets replacments
* Refurbish wheel alloy
* 280mm discs all around
* Move to solid subframe mounts
* Change my stereo for an android one (and have torque displayed)

Top of my list is the cambelts and water pump, a remap maybe and a new cat.
I have still to fit my remote boot release mech and I have to sort out a low coolant alarm.
Car wise that's about it, the rest is just driving and enjoying!
Runs planned, I am off to FRL and also Topless around the peaks, and a Yorkshire roadtrip too.

There are a few on your list I should do too. I have got a few of those done though. The car had its birthday service last week. The lines and ss brake hose were done last year. I would like 280mm discs on the front. I am unsure about mot regs. regarding brake modifications and whether my standard steel spare would fit over the 280mm discs. I tried ultimax2 ebc black pads. Very little dust and pretty good for a standard pad from cold.
I also have a hff os wing sat in my conservatory gathering dust. I'll get around to that one.
Nice range of jobs - let us know how you get on.

Ahh. Yorkshire. (The home land). Worked in the north riding, lived in the south riding, born in the east riding and married to a west riding gal. Well the Mendips, Quantocks and Brendons will have to do for the moment instead.
