i looked up a suitable replacement for the BF Goodrich G Force 215 40 16`s i had been relying on for several years.. but they have stopped producing them.
the GSD`3s looked to be a good choice... they have a good feedback from users of many different types of car.. i particularly looked for users of 215 40 16`s
my decision is based on tread on the road, tyre pattern and purpose designed manufacture.. like reinforced side wall, extra load carrying capacity, et al..
so i was happy to try out the GoodYear tyres specifically for rear wheel application..
The fronts...? i still wanted the tread width, but was not so concerned about the loading... though some would argue that the fronts work harder, my experience on tread wear is that the fronts far exceed the time to wear out the rear tyres take... and less rubber loss means the tyres are not experiencing the same abrasive pressure forces the rear tyres get... even with hard cornering and braking.. the rear tyres wear out sooner..
so i felt i could try a less expensive tyre with the same tread pattern and rotational direction configuration ..
and i could see a lot of folks use Proxes ... and had good feedback..
it was also about time... i had got the GoodYear tyres for the rear, when the front tyres were at the limit, and i had an MOT to pass... and i didnt have a spare ally wheel with a tyre on it with the right rotation.. ie i needed a right and had lefts... so... i needed to get two tyres, since i never mix pairs only fronts or backs.. as others say, mixing tyres on the same axle is not a thing to do.. neither is a half worn tyre and a new one... balance is everything.
The Proxes were available for immediate fitting... and with limited time due to work commitments, i went for those for the front..
Mixing manufacturers for tyres is not something i have done by choice... only by purchase.. and i have always regretted that all four tyres were not the same...
So even using GoodYear GSD Eagle F1 on the back and Toyo Proxes on the front, gave me trepidation.. i drove the car with caution until i was comfortable that the mixing of manufacturer on front to rear - was not of detrimental consequence...
i am more than happy now that the combination is just as good as i was getting from the BF Goodrich.. and its why i have taken time here to post my own experience, not because i personally say " you should use these" but because i have, and have been extremely happy with the tyres abilities..
that doesnt mean they are the best... the cheapest, the longest wearing. or anything really... except i share my own experience... and that was what the OP asked for..
