Wheel bearings

Hi all
I don't know if it is just bad luck but my mot in 2015 was a fail thanks to a duff wheel bearing which in turn had damaged the hub so bearing AND hub to replace 60 for the parts. Come 2016 the same again failed wheel bearing + damaged hub and again 60. So being a good christian [tight ] I thought it is obviously cheaper to replace the wheel bearings on the 2 other wheels 30 before this years mot
So replace your bearings now @15 x4 or pay 55 x 4 for hubs also

Do you mean drive flanges when you say hubs.
Our sponsors can do new drive flange and bearing kit for jest under 60 each post free.

What's the matter with these cars and wheel bearings. I can't remember the last time I had to change one, if ever.

you havent lived then barkingdog. i think. the main killer of wheel bearings in the F , is failing and consequentially hard hydragas, and potholes.

the wheel then has to absorb the shock of bad road surfaces, because the suspension isnt...

it means that tyre pressure becomes the absorber of shock, and when it doesnt the tyre compresses and hits the wheel rim.. that shock is transmitted to the wheel. which dents, and the wheel bearing which degrades..

one can hear a grumbling wheel bearing, its got a rotational thrum... it gets louder as the bearing structure fails, and the steering as consequence begins to loose its precision..

in its worst phase, the wander of the wheel, starts to affect the brakes , the brake discs and pads...

the car becomes a fragile thing.

if the suspension cant absorb the shock... everything in that line cant give it to the suspension.. and has to take it.

wheel bearing grumble is one of the first signs... but an mot failure on a dented wheel. is another. an unbalanced wheel will kill a wheel bearing like tapping it with a hammer until its bearings fall out.
